As most can imagine it’s a huge effort to ship an entire motocross team overseas to race in some of the far corners of the earth, and for the Honda World Motocross team it’s certainly a big challenge logistically to ensure everything is in place for Grand Prix racing at tracks outside of Europe.

This year the first overseas race was in Mexico, followed by Brazil and the two crates that are jam packed with everything a motocross race team needs to operate at Grand Prix competition including two factory CRF 450R bikes per rider, tools, spare engines, wheels and so on amass to a total of one ton in freight.

Following the Fermo round in Italy at the end of April the crates left two days after the race finished, meaning that the team had very little time to prepare the bikes and pack the crates post-race to get them ready for the event in Mexico. The shipping from Italy to Mexico took nine days, and the crates arrived at the Guadalajara track on the Thursday before the Grand Prix.

There are lots of other things to organise too. The team arrived on Wednesday night after the long flight from Europe, then on Thursday they had to re-build the bikes, fit out the paddock box with everything needed for the weekend; water, a compressor, power, drinks, ice and at these hot races the team purchases a pool for riders Evgeny Bobryshev and Rui Gonçalves to cool in after the sessions in the intense heat. The team also has to organise solvents, as it’s not possible to ship things like brake cleaner, cleaning products, oil and so on, from somewhere local, which involves battling with the local traffic as well as navigating the area to get what is needed. Thankfully Dunlop brings the tyres and supplies a top-notch tyre service, so the team doesn’t have to add a selection of race rubber to the already-full crate.

At the track there is a catering service, which the team uses for lunch but there’s little time to stop, as all of the usual appliances are not at the mechanics’ fingertips, making the job that little bit harder. In Mexico the heat was over 30 degrees in really dusty conditions, which made the cleaning of the bikes difficult and the task incredibly tough on the mechanics. Logistically it’s tough too, as many of the team members fly from different countries, so Laura the team logistics coordinator has a big job on her hands.

“It’s really nice to come overseas to visit new countries. It is not easy because we have a lot of logistics including cars, hotels and air tickets from many different places for our team members, so it’s a lot of work to arrange everything. Also the ticket to Brazil from Mexico was really complicated, so it’s a big job for Laura who is our team logistics coordinator,“ said Lorenzo Resta, Honda World Motocross Team Manager

After Mexico the crates left on Sunday night only a couple of hours after the race, but don’t arrive at the Brazil track until Thursday, meaning that any issues and race prep has to be dealt with quickly. It’s certainly hard on the team members after the flying and jet lag as well as the job being tougher than a normal race with a lot of continuous work. The team does have the opportunity to travel together more though, and that’s great for bonding as they all eat at the same place, as well as stay at the same hotel (whereas normally some members would travel and sleep in the trucks). This is a good way to keep morale high by grouping together and working hard. There’s also sometimes the opportunity to try out local cuisine and culture, which makes travelling abroad a lot more worthwhile. For example the team went to visit some pyramids close to Guadalajara on Monday, as well as testing out some traditional Mexican restaurants and market.

The travel scenario is hard on the riders though; lot’s of plane trips, air conditioning, jet lag, no routine for their training and a lot of things like heat and altitude to get acclimatised to – it makes the racing an even bigger challenge but being part of a World Championship even more special.

“There’s so little time for preparation of the bikes, as they are shipped and we can’t bring solvents, so there’s a lot to organize. When we leave Europe it’s difficult to know what to expect so when we get here there’s a lot to find like power, supermarkets and everything we need to make a good job so we have to think on our feet. It’s also a big organisation to get the bikes here but the team love it because it’s something special and it’s great for us all to travel unlike in Europe and it’s a great opportunity for team bonding, ” concluded Resta.

The team is left Mexico this morning and its next outing is this weekend for round five of the MX1 World Championship in Beto Carrero, Brazil.

With the bad weather aggravating most of the country the last couple of weeks landrake Moto Park was alight with some bright sunshine and the first round of the Redbull pro nationals.
With track conditions perfect on Saturday morning it was time for the Two Oakleaf Kawasaki Rookies Jake Millward and Tommy Alba to show their potential and hard work from the off season.
Qualification got under way with 5mins free practice before the tense timed session started to see who will get the 1st gate pick for the weekends races.

it was Jake Millward who topped the screens in the mechanics area with a lap time of 2:01.44 and a blistering 2sec lead on the next competitor , Tommy Alba was seriously on the pace too early on but as he came past the mechanics area and not far from the finish line a slight mistake with a loss of traction took him off his rhythm which looked to be his fastest lap and had to settle for 5th with a 2:04.30, this meant both of the oakleaf boys where in the top 10 and had a good chance of a hole shoot with a decent gate pick.

with the a busy attendance of spectators and pumped atmosphere, the two Oakleaf Rookies made there way to the line and the first 20sec board was held high to start off the first Redbull Rookie race of the year Jake Millward was 2nd into the first corner and Tommy Alba within the top 10 , the front postion had changed by the 2nd corner with jake millward on his KXF250 taking the lead and was to pull away from the the rest of the 44 riders and take the win , Tommy was forced to work hard and a couple of mistakes was to take him across the line in 7th.

Race 2 was the teams best rookie race of the weekend with Jake Millward with the hole shoot and again putting the Oakleaf Kawasaki out in front although a slight mistake seen him drop the bike he still managed to stay in front and take the win . Tommy with a change of suspension was showing he was around to make a statement with a hard battle from 4th to take 2nd place and again showing he gets stronger as the race goes on , for the team it was a very proud moment to see Oakleaf Kawasaki take 1st and 2nd and the team camp was buzzing.

Race 3 and the last race of the day was set and having both riders in good positions it was important to take the Saturday in to the Sunday on a high and in a healthy way , Jake was too cross the line with a second from having a top 5 start and Tommy in 5th although 1 more lap and he looked confident enough to take 2 more positions only to run out of time but all in all both riders showed great work effort and potential.

Sunday again was a cloud free day but that slight wind to cut across the track over night was to dry it out and the events22 organisers where on hand to prepare the track for another top days racing.
Sunday would see Oakleaf Kawasaki’s Alex Snow make his appearence in the PRO MX1/MX2 class and they had first test of the extremely well prepared Landrake circuit with a 20min free practice session .
Qualification was up next for Alex and he set the 9th fastest lap time of 1:59 and a good starting position although confidence was high for him to take the hole shot.

Next up was the first Rookie race of the Sunday and again a packed start line with clean prepped bikes gleaming in the Landrake sun the gate was to drop and jake Millward and Tommy alba was to enter the first corner both in the top 12, within 3 laps the race was in full swing and Millward had moved up to 2nd with 4-5 seconds to make up on the front runner , Tommy had moved up in to the top 5 and both Oakleaf boys where on a charge Millward was to make up ground on the front rider and put him under enough pressure to make a mistake and take the win with Tommy crossing the line for 4th this meant that Jake was lying in first and Tommy in 3rd in the standings.

The Pros were on the line for Race 1 and Sundays atmosphere and crowed had grown from Saturday with everyone wanting to see the best riders in the UK and some from across the world battle it out ,the gate was to drop and a fast aggressive pack of 45 riders was to charge into the first corner with Oakleaf Kawasaki’s Alex Snow aboard his kxf450 with amence start in 2nd place the weekend had just got better , he was to hold his position for a couple of laps and it wasn’t long be for the ruts and racing lines where to get bigger and rougher he was to come across the finish line in 6th but the 5th mx1 and the 2nd fastest Kawasaki although a great result he still wanted better in the next.

Having Alex under the awning showed to be a busy and exciting day for the team and some fine refreshments and Hospitality laid on, gave the team time out to regroup and structure the final part of the day ahead.

It was race 5 and the biggest race for the Rookies as this would take there positions to the next round at Fatcats , the gate was to drop and it was Millward with the Hole shot and Tommy Alba in 4th , Jake was to make good ground on the chasing pack and began to settle into his rhythm and Show his class until he came across a back marker with 3 laps remaining and hit the dirt , he remounted in 5th and Tommy was hot on the heels of 2nd and this race had all the crowed on their feet with a massive battle at the front , back markers where playing there part and it was making it hard to find a decent pass and the finish flag was out Alba was to settle for 3rd and Millward for 5th but this was to see both Oakleaf Kawasaki Rookies take there well deserved positions on the Redbull podium with Jake Millward in 1st overall and Tommy Alba Taking a hard fought 3rd overall.

After the hype of the Rookies it was back to the Final Pro race of the day and again Alex Buzzing with confidence and now really settling in to his new team , aboard his kxf450 he managed to blast into a top 5 coming out of the first corner and was chasing hard on 4th , you could see he had his full confidence back and was certainly showing his skill and style but the front runners where all showing great speed and not a lot of change in there positions , Alex was to drop one place in the closing minutes and come across the line in 5th and the 2nd Kawasaki rider , but until he was back in the pits it was revealed a slight exhaust problem made him not for fill the full potential of his race but he used his experience to settle for what is a good start to his Redbull championship champagne , he now lies in 6th overall and is Ready for round 2.

All in all a great weekend for Oakleaf Kawasaki and they would like to thank all involved .

The first non-European event of the calendar in Guadalajara, Mexico saw an excellent performance by KTM factory rider Ken De Dycker. De Dycker earned his first moto podium of the 2012 season aboard the SX-F 450. He matched rostrum finisher David Philippaerts on points but narrowly lost out on the overall podium after the Italian’s better second moto. In the championship fight Ken now sits in fourth, only three points behind third-placed Gautier Paulin.

Riders’ concerns about the considereable clouds of dust on the track on Saturday motivated their decision to sit out the qualification race. Thus gate positions would be decided by the pre-qualifying practice order. From 17th on the gate Keeno rode to 11th in the start. However the tall Belgian shone in the opening lap. In his spectacular style Ken pushed ahead to slot in behind Desalle, Pourcel and his team mate Cairoli. With consistent 1.56 lap times De Dycker hung on to fourth for most of the moto. With five laps to go he was bumped up to third after Pourcel pulled in to the pits. Cosolidating his third place Ken finished 13 seconds ahead of Paulin. It was De Dycker’s first moto rostrum finish since Germany, 2010.

Pumped to grab his first overall podium of the season, the Red Bull-KTM star made hay while the sunshine. After a solid start around the top five, De Dycker passed Phillipaerts for fourth behind Desalle, Boog and race leader Pourcel. With both Cairoli and Phillippaerts on the charge De Dycker had to settle for fifth. Although he managed to close down much of the gap on the guys in front of him he’d finish only 2,7 secons behind Pourcel.

Ken De Dycker: “My Mexican weekend was quite okay. Obviously I was disappointed not to be on the podium in the podium. On the other hand I scored a good haul of points and I’m happy with my position in the series. In the second moto I didn’t have the best of starts but I could make up positions quickly to chase Tony (Cairoli) in fourth. The speed was good, although I had some trouble with lapped riders which messed up my rhythm.
The second start was a bit better, but not great either. It was a tough moto because I douldn’t flow like I did in the first race. Also I was not yet fully recuperated. In between motos I didn’t have anything to eat and the heat was really punishing! I didn’t feel as strong, but with the elevation and those temperatures it surely was a GP unlike any other. The bike lost quite bit of power due to these conditions, just like anyone else suffered there. Unfortunately that also affected my starts.”

KTM shows itself to be prepared in the best possible way for offroad sporting activity. The starting gun has gone off at the production line in Mattighofen for the latest range of high-class Motocross, Enduro and Sports Minicyles.

The Austrian market leader launches the 2013 range of bikes with no less than 26 models. Above all, there is a completely new generation of Motocross bikes that are directly derived from the most successful MX teams in the world.

In short: a completely new 450 SX-F with SOHC fuel injection engine, the most powerful MX1 bike that profits from the success of the Ryan Dungey-DeCoster Supercross collaboration.

A completely updated 350 SX-F with refined MX1 win concept. Increased engine performance and chassis refinement make KTM 350 rider and World Champion Tony Cairoli even better.

Click for full spec on the new 350 SX-F

The world class 250 SX-F with new engine to further increase the lead in MX2 – already tested by Roczen, Musquin, Herlings and Co. Three two-stroke models for every rider profile round off the KTM Motocross family to perfection.

Enduro Models
The KTM Development Center has advanced the range of Enduro bikes without compromise for 2013. All existing models have received intensive and detailed improvements in all of the important areas. The intention: to offer all EXC two and four stroke riders a better Enduro combination of riding fun, performance, responsiveness and durability.

Big Minis
KTM wouldn’t be KTM if its Offroad Team had not included the three Minicycle models with 50, 65 and 85 cc into its development activities. This serious approach is underlined by the almost completely new 85 SX that presents the up-and-coming junior MX racer with a clear vision of the world of professional competition.

While in Italy for the presentation together with Pit Beirer, KTM’s head of Motorsport, Stefan Pierer, CEO KTM Sportmotorcycle AG, underlined the importance of the new Offroad generation. “What KTM has accomplished thanks to the tireless efforts of the technicians and the racers is unique. All of the KTM company is based on this strong foundation. To do justice in its roll as “number one”, it has been full throttle in every way for KTM to achieve what it has for this latest model year.”

Another tradition continues in the Model Year 2013 in the form of the popular “Six Days”. Equipped with the finest extras, such as a completely newly developed WP closed cartridge fork with an innovative 4-chamber damping system, the Six Days models are available in seven different motor variants (125 EXC, 250 EXC, 300 EXC, 250 EXC-F, 350 EXC-F, 450 EXC and 500 EXC) and come in the German national colours.

Thanks to its enormous wealth of experience and an optimal development structure it has been possible for KTM to further expand the range of its very own performance-enhancing PowerParts range in 2013. And let’s not forget the unique choice of matching quality clothing and accessories.

A full and complete test on all the KTM range will be in the next issue of MOTO on sale June 6th.

The YMSA had travelled to Preston Docks MX to hold the fifth championship round of the season. The sun shone all day and a successful day of racing was had by all.

The Cadet’s were eager to make a start as race one got underway. There was no stopping Ben Clark as he rode hard to take the chequered flag, followed by Oliver Woods and Kieran Danby. Keeton Cooper charged up the start straight in race two to take the holeshot. Further down the pack Ellie Birch and Cai Thomas were showing some nail biting racing as they racing very close together. The top three results mirrored race one for the rest of day as Ben took the overall position for first place.

Rossi Beard triumphed in race one in the Junior class. Lewis Hall and Eddie Wade pushed hard for second and third. Race two saw Danny Clarke take the holeshot but was soon pushed back by Dane Reeves and Rossi. Rossi had it clear in his mind that he was winning this race as he chased Dane to take the lead. All through the race, Lewis was pulling through and gaining on Dane. Then on the last lap Lewis slipped round Dane to take second place. After another holeshot by Danny, Lewis flew into the lead leaving the rest of the pack behind him. This time Rossi pushed past Danny to take second. Rossi gained points for first overall, whilst Lewis and Danny finished second and third overall.

Race one for the Small Wheel class saw day member Luke Reading take the chequered flag, closely followed by Daniel Shepherd and Nathan Claughn. A few riders were off on the starting corner of race two but Daniel Shepherd pushed through to take the lead with Reece Madden riding hard behind in second. After a couple of laps, Luke and Nathan passed Reece to take up second and third positions. Race three came and both Daniel and Luke were on equal points. Connor Fish was straight out of the gate to take the holeshot and Nathan moved forward into the lead. However, by the second lap Daniel had taken the lead and stormed through the flag to take the overall win of the day. Nathan finished second in race three leaving him to take third overall. Despite having a puncture in the final race, Luke finished in fifth giving him second overall.

Gradie Featherstone owned all three races and took all three wins, leaving him with maximum points to take first overall. Will Jeonney took all three second place finishes, allowing him to take second overall. There was a lot of close racing in this class today and the results further down the pack would have been hard to predict. Jack Naylor pushed hard to take the third position finish in race two. Kenny Ryalls took third in race three, securing him third overall.

It wasn’t a surprise to Macauley Madden dominate the Senior class and take the trophy for first overall. Dan Whitehead kept the throttle on and finished in second in race one, chased by Kurtis Williams in third. Macauley and George Hall pulled straight into first and second in race two while Dan finished in third. Luke Atkinson came out of nowhere in the final race and stayed in second all through the race. George had a third place finish in race three, giving him enough points for second overall. Dan Whitehead finished third overall.

Paul Smith took the first holeshot of the day for the Adult A class but was soon pushed back by James Nottingham who powered through to take the lead. Not far behind was Reece Desore who was gaining on James but was left to finish in second. Thomas Batty finished in third. Adam Craggs and Ryan Bruce were riding wheel to wheel but it was Ryan who stepped up to take the fourth finish. Reece cranked it up for race two and took the win. Ryna and James came second and third. Lee Harrison led race three from the moment the gate dropped. Second place was taken by Ryan again as he tried hard to catch Lee throughout the race. Another third place finish gave James Nottingham enough points for the overall win. Ryan Bruce finished in second overall and Reece Desore in third.

In the Adult B race, Ashley Horsnall took the holeshot in race one but was soon pushed back by Danny Woodier, who proceeded to dominate all races by taking all three chequered flags. Ryan Thorp flew up the start straight to take the initial lead in race two. Danny Woodier soon pushed through the pack, along with James Walker and Ashley who finished in second and third. Ashley gained another third place finish in race three, getting the points for second overall. Third overall went to Aaron Woodall with the results 4-4-2.

Anton Faulkes was straight into the lead in race one for the Adult C class. Billy Burchell fought hard to keep in second position throughout the race. Andy Hall showed persistence as he pulled through from the back to finish in third. Andy Clark took the holeshot for race two but Anton took the lead again, leaving Andy riding in second. However, Andy Clark experienced mechanical problems, leaving Andy Hall to take second and John Moody to take third. Anton took first overall, Andy Hall took second and Billy Burchell took third overall.

Cadet rider Ben Clark rode to victory in each race, taking the overall win for the day. Consistent riding from Oliver Woods proved to be valuable as he managed to rack up three second position finishes, allowing him to take second overall. Keeton Cooper finished in third in race one and Kieran Austin took the next two third place finishes. Keeton had gained the points for two fourths, which just put him ahead of Kieran to take third overall.

Dane Reeves took the first chequered flag in the Junior class. Eddie Wade and Lewis Hall came in quick behind for second and third.
Riding was tough today in the Senior class with many quick riders. Day member Jamie Ellis took all three race wins for first overall. Kurtis took third overall with the results 2-4-3.

Results were reversed in race two as Ryan finished in second and Thomas in third. Visitor Ryan Thornhill took the final race win but this wasn’t enough to get him in the top three. James Nottingham finished first overall, followed by Thomas Batty in second and Ryan Bruce in third.

Riders in Adult B class had a mixed day of racing. Ashley Horsnall took the first chequered flag of the day, with Will Stafford and Aaron Woodall coming in second and third.
BSEC title race hots up as series heads to Manor Farm, Northants.
This weekend sees the UK’s top enduro racers compete in the penultimate event of the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship as series organisers GMC Events team up with Enduroland for a not to be missed event at the exciting Manor Farm venue, Northants.

With the Manor Farm venue proving popular with competitors in all classes during 2011 the BSEC series will once again make use of the fantastic terrain on offer, mixing a plentiful supply of grass tracks with natural woodland and numerous man-made obstacles. Despite the recent heavy rain, a track inspection earlier this week has revealed that aside from one or two wet areas the majority of the track is in prime condition having not been used in over five months.

After his double victory at Saints Well, Mid Wales, TM’s Jordan Rose enters rounds seven and eight as the Elite class leader. Fresh from his outstanding performances at the recent Spanish and Portuguese rounds of the Enduro World Championship, Jordan will be hoping his newfound speed will carry him to further BSEC success this weekend.

“I’m really excited about heading to Enduroland,” commented Rose. “Starting the event as the championship leader adds a little extra expectation to perform but I’m hopeful that my recent good results in the EWC will help me to deliver another strong performance.”

However, with many riders also keen to steal a win in the BSEC Elite championship, Rose will face stiff opposition at Adstone. Of those eager to secure victory are the KTM duo of Tom Church and Daryl Bolter. Both riders have now reached peak form as the championship passes the halfway point and at round five and six both pilled the pressure on Rose. This weekend they too will be focused on reaching the top step of the podium.

Add into the mix the consistent performances of Husqvarna’s Jamie Lewis, along with Husaberg’s Si Wakely, Mark Roberts (Kawasaki) and KTM’s Lee Edmondson and the battle for Elite honours will undoubtedly be as fierce as ever.

In the Under 23 class the fight for victory between Gas Gas’ Danny McCanney, KTM’s Jonny Walker and Husaberg’s Alex Rockwell is sure to rage on this weekend. With three race wins to date it’s McCanney that currently leads the way. Placing first and second in Saints Well, the Manxman has since racked up more podium success in the EWC and currently lies third overall in the Enduro Junior World Championship. With momentum on his side, he’ll be hoping for a winning result.

Sitting just 11 points behind McCanney in second position is KTM’s Jonny Walker. After a commanding double win at rounds three and four, the young Cumbrian was distinctively off his game last time out. Using this weekend’s event as preparation for his assault on this year’s Erzberg Rodeo, Walker will be determined to put a dent in McCanney’s championship lead.

Tasting victory at round six of the series in Saints Wells, Rockwell is a rider that also enters Adstone following time spent on the EWC tour. Fourth in the Enduro Junior class at the recent Spanish GP, the Manxman has the ability to turn rounds seven and eight of the series into a winning ride. Knocking on the door of a top result is Husqvarna’s Jack Rowland, Lewis Belfield (KTM) and Jordan Scott (KTM).
Hard charging Steve Holcombe is on the verge of being crowned the first champion of the 2012 BSEC season. Clocking up a maximum six wins from six starts in the Under 19 class, Holcombe will be focused on ending his weekend as the new Under 19 champion. Behind Holcombe, Kawasaki’s Joe Wootton, James Dent (KTM), Joe Jones (KTM), Robert Johnson (Husqvarna) and Aaron Smith (Husaberg) are all focused on reaching the podium.

In the 125 Youth Cup the race for victory heats up between Lee Sealey (KTM), Brad Freeman (KTM) and TM’s Josh Gotts. With Sealey holding a slender two-point lead in the championship over Freeman, and with Gotts just six points further back, the penultimate stop of the BSEC series will be a crucial one for all involved.

It’s Tyson Maytom-Jones (Husaberg) that currently heads the way in the Expert class. Picking up a win at round five in Saints Well, the Husaberg rider holds a four-point advantage over KTM’s Richard Ely. However, with KTM’s Oliver Hart just three points behind Ely in third, and beginning to find his form in the series, it’s still all to play for in the Expert class.

Another rider that remains undefeated in 2012 is Jane Daniels (KTM), who may also be crowned champion at Adstone. Securing maximum points so far in the championship, Daniels is looking to become the first ever Women’s champion of the BSEC. Adding further spice to the class will be the battle between Rhian George (KTM), Katie Walker (KTM) and Fionn Griffiths (KTM).

In the Clubman class, TM’s Gethin Francombe is currently on a roll. With three wins from the last three races, he’ll be hoping for his win streak to continue in Adstone. However, Richard Topping (Honda), Jamie Jenkins (KTM) and Ian Smart (KTM) will be keen to capitalise on any mistakes he makes this weekend.

With it all still to play, for the penultimate venue for the British Sprint Enduro Championship at Enduroland in Adstone, Northampton, is the place to be this weekend.

Following months of anticipation, this Saturday, May 19, the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, will commence with the 44th running of the FMF Hangtown Motocross Classic from Prairie City OHV Park in Sacramento, Calif. Crisscrossing the United States, three world-class racing divisions—the 450 Class, 250 Class, and Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX)—will embark on a summer-long battle for the most prestigious championship in motocross.

The Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club will make sure the competitors face a challenge when they visit the iconic track, which features plenty of elevation changes, highly technical obstacles, and a bowl-like layout that lends itself to spectacular sightlines from almost any vantage point. As the longest-running event on the schedule, the Hangtown Motocross Classic even precedes what is now known as the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and boasts a devoted local following.

Hangtown will host the 2012 Lucas Oil Motocross season opener on Saturday.

Hangtown also signifies the start of the 2012 broadcast package with NBC Sports and FUEL TV. Opening motos will be showcased live on FUEL TV and AlliSports.com beginning at 4 p.m. EST, while same-day coverage of the second motos can be seen on NBC Sports Network at 12:30 a.m. EST.

On an international level, the second motos of Lucas Oil Motocross will be simulcast throughout the globe, with over 24 hours of live racing showcased on SPEED Australia, ESPN Brazil, and ESPN Latin America. This will bring the most prestigious championship on the planet to over 40 million homes across those continents.

Additionally, 15 hours of post-produced highlight shows will be distributed to Extreme Sports Channel in Europe and the Middle East, Germany’s SPORT1, South Africa’s SuperSport, along with SPEED Australia, ESPN Brazil, and ESPN Latin America. This will expand the reach of the Nationals to over 65 million homes.

For more information about dates and times of these broadcasts, contact local satellite or cable providers.

450 Class

Reigning 450 Class Champion Ryan Villopoto will miss the entire 2012 season following an injury suffered prior to the start of the championship. In the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider’s absence, several contenders are prepared to step up.

Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey enjoyed the most successful rookie season of all time in 2010 en route to that championship. For his first season aboard a KTM, he wants to give the Austrian brand its first American title. Alongside Dungey is the newest member of Team Yoshimura Suzuki, James Stewart, the 2008 champion who has not competed full-time in Lucas Oil Motocross since his perfect season four years ago. Stewart’s highly publicized move from Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX to Suzuki will be a major storyline throughout the season.

Other riders to watch include Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX’s Davi Millsaps, Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Brayton and Tommy Hahn, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer and Tyla Rattray, Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Brett Metcalfe, MotoConcepts Suzuki’s Mike Alessi, Chaparral Honda’s Andrew Short, and Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki’s Josh Grant and Kyle Chisholm. Each knows what it takes to win at the sport’s highest level and will be battling alongside Dungey and Stewart all season long.

250 Class

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a national champion last season, and now he’s back to continue his reign atop the 250 Class, home to the sport’s rising stars. As the first rider to defend his 250 Class title since the 2008 season, Wilson will meet a bevy of challengers prepared to make their own marks on the sport.

Wilson’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Blake Baggett might be the biggest threat to his title defense. Baggett showed tremendous speed and ability on his way to a series-leading five wins last season. Red Bull KTM teammates Marvin Musquin and Ken Roczen have championship experience of their own, having split the last three World Motocross MX2 titles. They’ve now made the move to the States to compete alongside the world’s best in Lucas Oil Motocross.

GEICO Honda duo Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac got off to a successful start in 2012 AMA Supercross competition and will look to carry that momentum to the Nationals. With veteran riders like Star/Valli Yamaha’s Kyle Cunningham, along with Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Martin Davalos and Blake Wharton, the 250 Class is loaded with talented competitors.

WMX Class

Over the past four seasons, a captivating rivalry has developed between the two biggest names in the WMX Class. Team Honda Muscle Milk’s Ashley Fiolek and Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Jessica Patterson have traded wins and championships, establishing themselves as the premier female motocross riders on the planet and helping bring the WMX Class to the national spotlight.

Fiolek enters the 2012 season as the defending champion, having claimed her third title in four years, but Patterson is back with a new team and a renewed passion to reclaim the title she last won in 2010. Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil Honda’s Tarah Gieger will challenge every step of the way, as will the exceptionally fast Mariana Balbi, Jacqueline Strong, and Vicki Golden. Fiolek’s new Team Honda Muscle Milk teammate Sayaka Kaneshiro will look to make the most of her new opportunity as well.

MX1 title contender, Gautier Paulin, suffered an unfortunate setback at round 4 of the FIM Motocross world championship held in a scorching Guadalajara, Mexico.

The first of a two stop visit to the South American continent left Paulin with a solid fourth position in moto one after he had to fight his way through the pack in hot conditions. The Kawasaki Racing Team rider did not make it to the gate drop in moto 2 when his machine experienced technical problems on the sighting lap.

“I had a good feeling on the track this morning, but my start was not so good in the first race and by the time I recovered to fourth the leaders were too far away to improve further. I was happy with my riding and looking forward to the second race but something happened on the sighting lap and I wasn’t able to make the start. That’s frustrating but it can happen to anyone in our sport, and the setback gives the entire team motivation to bounce back strongly next weekend in Brazil.“

Weeks of bad weather and cancelled meetings were finally broken this weekend with Rugby hosting their AMCA meeting at Crick. Even on Thursday it looked as though the meeting would be a washout with three inches of standing water in some places but the club took a gamble and decided to run. A good call as the track turned out great.

Practice started slippery as the groups churned away through the grass but the MX1 Experts finished mowing the lawn in the first race of the day to reveal all the grip you could wish for. As the day wore on the natural track started to rough up and made it quite hard going for everyone towards the end but overall a good meeting and run flawlessly by Rugby club.
