With the F1 entourage already moving into Silverstone in readiness for this weekends Grand Prix,and at the same time imposing logistical restrictions on Ken Winstanley and the Wulfsport British Masters team as they attempted to prepare the motocross track for round five of the 2011 series,a big decision had to be made!!.

Should they stay on-site or with just three day’s remaining look for a new venue to stage the Masters event.Quickly the latter was the verdict and after considering several other tracks,the ACU and Jim Parker then came racing to the rescue with their very generous offer of the nearby Milton Malsor circuit.So,a massive thank-you from Ken and the Masters team to the ACU for ensuring the Wulfsport supported event was not only on,but also a great success,with the cancelled Foxhills races also squeezed into the weekend and the entire programme completed by 5pm on Sunday evening!!.

Running right alongside the M1 motorway,keeping the threat of rising dust down to an absolute minimum is imperative at Milton Malsor,hence the need to extensively water the track.This was to create wet,boggy patches thus turning an already technical circuit into a maze of different racing lines.The variation in conditions going from wet to dry areas certainly also created some very interesting action and tested riders abilities to the full.However coping in style was both Paul Neale(DK Off-Road Kawasaki Masters MX2) and Jamie McCarthy(Michelin Masters MX1) bagging maximum points from their five motos completed.

As expected,Neale was pushed all the way during the weekend by the equally determined Gareth Padgett including a stunning last race.Passing and repassing,Neale edged in front and as Padgett then came back for more,the latter crashed heavily.Quickly on his feet,Padgett though was still able to remount in 2nd spot,such was the pace of the top two.With the immaculate Neale taking top honours during round five,it means that he his now trailing Padgett by just two points in the series standings with Richard Gray currently holding 3rd,well ahead of Jordan Hughes,Steve Cornwall,James Purchase and co.In the DK Off-Road Kawasaki MX1 class,Dale Brockhurst certainly encountered an interesting last moto incident,going off the track and getting his front wheel stuck in the wooden pallet protecting a marshals point!!.The MX1 moto wins during round five was shared between overall victor Ryan Bruce and Chris Neesam with the latter leading the series.

After going through the Michelin Masters MX1 card unbeaten at Foxhills,Jamie McCarthy repeated the feat at Milton Malsor.Jamie was though maybe a little fortunate in the final clash when finding himself well downfield in the early stages only for the moto to be red-flagged!!.In the re-run,Jamie made no mistake to take yet another stylish win.On each occasion,fast starting Josh Scott followed him home whilst Jamie Wilson claimed the final podium spot. Despite finishing 5th overall,Darren Fowden maintained the Championship lead ahead of Tom Davies and Ben Thompson.It’s certainly interesting at the top of the Michelin Masters MX2 as just 22 points separate Jamie Thompstone and Jack Jones.At Milton Malsor,Jones was on-fire and storming to three moto wins with Thompstone the other race victor.However topping the podium was the super consistent Emerson Jones aboard his Miller Plant Suzuki.In all four clashes,Emerson was to get home in a strong 2nd spot.

Forced to compete in the Non-Qualifiers at Foxhills due to the problems with the electronic timing system,Sam Davis proved just what a quick rider he is by flying to victory in the GSP Race Products Amateur MX1 class at Milton Malsor.Davis(2),Luke Meredith and Jamie Dobson took the race wins.Competing in both this class and the Pro MX1, series leader Daniel Brough had to settle for 4th overall with Davis,Dobson and Michael Reynolds the podium lads.

What a great contest Raceworld.com Amateur MX2 proved to be as at the end of proceedings,Charles Statt and Edward Briscoe finished on 188 points apiece,just two ahead of 3rd placed Aled Bellis.Crucially though Statt on the two-stroke TM had won the final moto to thus also take the overall victory.With class leader Ricky Lethaby restricted to 4th overall at Milton,this class looks all set to thrill right to the final chequered flag of the season!!.

After another quality accomplished performance,Scott Acerbis MXY2 leader Dan Thornhill could mathematically seal the 2011 crown during the penultimate round at Hawkstone Park in August.Dan won all four scheduled races at Milton Malsor,his only defeat coming in the outstanding cancelled Foxhills moto when Damon Strydon was first past the post. Indeed Strydon was to feature in a couple of great scraps with Thornhill although a moto three DNF was to ruin his own final podium chances.So,instead it was Rob Muscat and Shaun Springer taking the silverware with Jay Thomas, Ryan Williams and Sonny Oliver also in the frame.

Having his first Masters outing of the season,Liam Knight took top honours in the Moto-Pro Suspension BW85cc class at the weekend,heading home Curtis Blamey and Rob Holyoake.Winning the first three moto’s,Knight though was eventually beaten in the final clash with Blamey first past the flag followed by Holyoake and Oliver Benton.In the SW85cc group,that lad Henry Siddiqui continues to dominate with another overall win ahead of Masters first timer Jamie Carpenter and Harry Linton.Unluckiest rider was surely Jay Hague who won three out of four motos,only denied a certain podium placing following a third moto DNF.

So what about the Pro’s then?,well MX2 were first up and whilst Steven Clarke was brought to a standstill in a frantic,bar-bashing turn one,thus relegating him to last place,it was Neville Bradshaw who led the way chased by young Luke Hawkins,Shane Carless,Matt Burrows,John Phillips and Scott Probert.Quickly Bradshaw and Hawkins broke away from the pack as Probert moved stylishly up into 3rd.The action was though to get literally a little too hot for Scott as his Honda caught fire!!,forcing him out.With Jamie Skuse crashing heavily and injuring his wrist when 9th, the man now on a charge was series leader Bryan MacKenzie.Gating 8th,Bryan eventually got home in 3rd with James Dodd also stylishly moving up from an early 10th to finish 6th.After his earlier problems,Clarke had to settle for 14th.

New Zealander John Phillips grabbed the moto two holeshot but by the completion of lap one,it was Probert in control with Clarke,Carless,a brave Skuse and Luke Remer giving chase.By lap two,Clarke was up into 2nd and the Suzuki rider had already began his quest to reel in Probert.Eventually on lap seven it was mission accomplished and from here onwards there was only one winner as Clarke dominated all the way to the chequered flag.Who would finish in 3rd though?,well that honour eventually went to Bradshaw as he charged from 8th in style and thus also confirm a richly deserved overall win whilst Bryan Mac went from 14th up to 4th.After his great ride in moto one,Hawkins was missing from this clash after crashing and injuring his collarbone whilst ‘doubling up’ in the MX1 class.

Something very unusual occurred in the opening Pro MX1 contest as Brad Anderson was actually defeated. Although Ando had grabbed the holeshot,a smooth,stylish Kristian Whatley had found a way through on lap two and there he remained to earn a fine race win.Although Ando kept the Samsung Yamaha rider in his sights,he was never able to quite get close enough to challenge.Completing the entire race in a rather lonely 3rd spot was Martin Barr with MacKenzie 4th,Dorron Coutts 5th and Josh Waterman 6th.

In MX1 moto two,Anderson though ensured that there was to be no repeat success for Kristian with a simply blistering gate to flag win,some sixteen seconds ahead of his rival.After eventually finishing 10th in moto one,Gert Krestinov was to have a far more enjoyable moto two,taking 3rd after seeing off his Maxxis Henderson LPE teamate Bryan Mac and Lanes Kawasaki rider Alex Snow in a super tussle.Once again,Coutts and Waterman were riding high to earn 6th and 7th respectively whilst Barr retired from proceedings on lap one.

Well done again to the Wulfsport British Masters team for coping in their usual unflappable style with the late,late change of venue!!.
