DAMAGE LIMITATION FOR LUPINO IN THE PORTUGAL GP

Share:
The Portuguese Grand Prix wasn’t too fortunate for the Husqvarna colours. It had become clear in Saturday’s qualifying that Alex Lupino wasn’t at his physical best. A heavy flu had taken its toll on the Italian rider and consequently the rest of the Husqvarna Motocross Team by Ricci Racing.

Lupino was unable to achieve better than fourteenth place in qualifying, after a day in which he had struggled to find the right pace and confidence at the Agueda track.

Lupino started Sunday’s race a long way back and ran into trouble as early as the second lap whilst trying to make up positions, with a fall which forced him out of the race. Race two saw Lupino starting out from eighteenth position. He began to find his rhythm in the second half of the race, and picked up positions, finishing in tenth place.

In spite of difficult day for Lupino, he remains in eighth overall position in the world championship after seven races.

Loic Larrieu had an unlucky race, and would have been able to finish in the points had it not been for mechanical troubles that twice forced him out of the races.

Alex Lupino: “Today I felt rotten. I haven’t been able to shake off this flu that has hindered progress the whole weekend. I only managed to start clocking up good lap times in the later half of the second race. Anyway, I’m glad to have been able to limit the damage in the world championship where I’m still in eighth overall position. “
Overall standings in the MX2 World Championship after 7 races:1. Herlings (KTM) 317, 2. Searle (Kawasaki) 293, 3.Van Horebeek (KTM) 268, 4.Roelants (Kawasaki) 204, 5. Anstie (Honda) 191, 6 Tixier (KTM) 187, 7. Nicholls (KTM) 175, 8. Lupino (Husqvarna) 129.
