Makita Rockstar Suzuki’s Michael Byrne is a regular front runner on the American MX scene, finishing fourth overall in the 2008 AMA nationals, we caught up with the 29 year old who has again been selected for Team Australia at the Motocross of Nations for a High5 before the racing took place on Sunday.

How much of an honour is it to be representing your country at this year’s Motocross of Nations?

“It’s a great honour, this is my fifth time on Team Australia now and it is always a great honour, it is certainly a good feeling to be able to represent your country, that’s for sure.”

What do you think of the British Fans?

“They’re crazy! They definitely get it to the spirit of things, they are so loud and they create an absolutely awesome atmosphere.”

Do you like the track here at Donington Park?

“The track was really good yesterday, but I think that they have put a little bit too much water on it today but hopefully the sun will come out and dry it up so as it is fine for the races.”

Have you ever considered racing in the World Championships instead of the American Nationals?

“I have but I really enjoy riding Supercross, but if at some stage things weren’t working out in America and a good opportunity in Europe arose then it is definitely something that I would consider.”

What are your plans for 2009?

“I going to be staying on Makita Rockstar Suzuki, I really enjoy the Bike and the team so things are good and I’m going to be racing the American Supercross Series and Outdoor Nationals, and hopefully be selected for Australia again for the 2009 Motocross of Nations.”
