High Fives with Mike Brown

nec1l 143 High Fives with Mike Brown

Former AMA, British motocross and reigning British Supercross Champion, Mike Brown from Tennessee, USA is now in the latter stages of his career and concentrates mainly on competing in Enduro racing, but after winning the British Supercross title last year ‘Brownie’ is back to defend his Number 1 plate, so we took some time out with him at the NEC during round one to grab a quick interview.

MOTO – Basically Mike, you now only compete in Enduro racing but you have been a regular visitor to the British Supercross and that has continued this year, how come you keep coming back?

“Yeah, these races are a lot different to the Supercross back home in the States, these are fun, the tracks are nice and the competition is a good standard, its not near the same level as James Stewart and all those guy’s but it’s good for me. I kind of treat it like a vacation.”

MOTO – As reigning Champion of the British Supercross Series to you feel any pressure to try and retain the title and take the Number 1 plate back home with you?

“No not really, like you know I’m not a kind of retired motocross/ Supercross rider so there’s no pressure but it would be nice to keep hold of it against all these young kids that are racing here.”

MOTO – As you say your now a retired motocross/Supercross rider but your still competing regularly in Enduro, is this just something that you’re doing for fun now that you’re in the later stages of your career?

“Yeah, it’s just something fresh to do, I still want to win at it and this year went really well for me, I won the WORCS championship at my first attempt! I’m really enjoy those event’s as well, there is a lot less pressure than at motocross and Supercross and everybody just goes and has a good time.”

MOTO – What does WORCS stand for?

“WORCS is the World Off Road Championship Series, it’s just really what you guys know as Enduro.”

MOTO – What do you think about the standard of the British riders and their ability when it comes to Supercross, have you noticed an improvement over the years that you have coming to do our series?

“Yeah, definitely, there is an improvement every year. I think the whole series gets better every year and the guy’s are getting more practice in at it. That’s the secret to Supercross really, you just got to practice and practice at it, the more you practice at it the better you’ll get at it, so as long as they stick with the standard will keep going up and up.”

MOTO – Thanks Mike, and good luck for the series.
