HIGH FIVES – Tommy Searle

So everything was set for Saturday night, laptop at the ready resting on a chair all ready for the start of the 2009 Lucas Oils outdoor motocross championship from Glen Helen but more importantly we were waiting for Tommy Searle to show us what we’re missing this season in Europe.
Little Tommy didn’t disappoint with superb 4-4 result not bad for someone who hasn’t raced his bike in anger for six months.

MOTO – Hey Tommy great ride yesterday dude.

“Cheers Chussy.”

MOTO – Now you have tasted what racing in the USA is all about, what do you think of it now after the race?

“Yeh the first race is out of the way and I’m happy about that, I like racing out here – atmospheres and how it all goes down but when I was out there racing it felt like any other race.”

MOTO – Any other race, you’re a cool customer Mr Searle but what your starts they were awesome and  your lines seemed so different from everyone else’s, was there a plan on how to pass them or did you see something nobody else saw?

“Yeh my starts have always been good so I just kept her lit up the long start straight and both times were good, my lines were a little different to most guys but they normally are, I don’t think I had the greatest lines out there but I wanted to get two solid rides under my belt and not take to many chances for the first race as it’s a long championship.”

MOTO – What about your bike it sounded different?

“Some people were saying that about the bike but I don’t know as it sounded good to me and the power was awesome, I’m not that fussed on how she sounded.”

MOTO – Fair enough. How did the American fans take to you, were they cool?

“Yeh the whole deal was cool a lot of people came up and said they were excited to see some different riders over here, so that was nice.”

MOTO – Everybody in the MOTO office was so pumped at being able to watch the first race on the internet; did you know this was happening as hundreds of your fans must have watched it?

“I never knew but some people said after that it was live back in the UK and how good the coverage was, I’m pumped for that because now people back home can see what’s going on and my Mum and Dad can watch it when their back home.”

MOTO – That’s nice dude. How was the heat as it looked pretty warm, we were saying that your normally stronger in the second part of the race, did that happen this time or?

“It wasn’t too hot but yeh it wasn’t cold that’s for sure. I’m in good shape anyway so when the hot races start it should help me, I was strong in the last part of the race, and Stroupe was there so I had to keep going which produced my fastest lap on the last lap. Our race was so late that it was hard to see the lines because of the sun so I didn’t want to go crazy at the beginning and take a big digger, so I just held my own and settled in.”

MOTO – You’ve always had great end to races. Your family went across to watch, did that help you out on the day knowing those guys are there cheering you on?

“Yeh they all came out, it was really nice as I haven’t seen them for three months before this weekend and a lot of other people from home were there cheering me on – it was spot on.”

MOTO – This weekend is Hangtown, is that different track to GH or is it fairly similar?

“I don’t really know to be honest but I’m guessing it will be a lot different and that’s good though as I can’t wait to ride new tracks.”

MOTO – So what’s the plan this week? Hollywood parties, dates with Monster Energy chicks or training lots and lots?

“Yeh like you said but I’ll probably just squeeze in the training on the Saturday before the race
ha-ha.”

MOTO – Well if you need a hand at the Hollywood parties you know where to come, thanks for that dude always a pleasure and good luck at Hangtown – just remember I stayed up until 3am Saturday listening to the races on the net -hardcore me!
