Not so long ago a blond curly head kid from Kidderminster was riding around Polesworth, Landrake and Foxhill but that has all changed for Steven Clarke as he’s now on the biggest stage in the world racing the AMA Supercross championship in the US of A!
MOTO – What did it feel like when you walked out at Houston on pro debut?
“It was the best feeling of my life- I was finally where I’ve been working to get to for the past few years, the feeling was amazing.”
MOTO – You did well in qualifying, did that settle your nerves?
“I wasn’t nervous at all before I got there, I knew I had the speed and the talent I just needed to get some experience under my belt and now I’m looking to take it one step at a time but I’ve set goals for the rest of the season which are achievable for sure.”
MOTO – You have a few weeks break now until Atlanta, what are you up to in between?
“It’s just back to the normal routine of riding and hitting the gym, eating good food to maintain what I’ve accomplished before Houston.”
MOTO – With that in mind and your first pro SX out of the way, do you think a top ten is out of the question anytime soon?
“No not at all – I crashed twice in the main and still got a 13th, I know in my heart I can get a top 5 if everything goes right on the night, all it takes is a good start (which I didn’t have at Houston) and I will get a top 5 – Atlanta is going to be awesome.”
MOTO – If you could offer piece of advice to a up and coming British rider looking to race in the USA, what would it be?
“Be prepared to spend a lot of money at first and make a lot of sacrifices but it’s all worth it in the end! trust me if you have a goal in life whatever you do just go for it, it’s hard work but hard work pays off in the end.”
