Is Jeffrey Herlings the best sand rider in the world?

The performance from 16 year old Jeffrey Herlings in Monday’s world motocross MX2 championship races in the sand of Valkenswaard was quite possibly the best I’ve ever seen. Not only did he make it look so simple but his dominance in moto one was staggering, winning by 37 seconds ahead of Ken Roczen and 44 seconds ahead of Britain’s Tommy Searle.

Herlings has years of racing ahead of him so how good will he be when he grows a little stronger? If you look at the lap-times of the MX1 class Max Nagl’s best was 1:56 in his second race, Herlings was 1:50 now that’s quick.

Did this put a dent in Ken Roczen’s race mind knowing that Jeffrey will certainly dominate in the sand and will undoubtedly get quicker on hard pack tracks as the season progresses – stay tuned as the 2011 season will be on fire at every race from now on.

So Jeffrey were you pleased with your sand dominance?
“I am very happy I felt very comfortable on the bike and today I was the fastest guy out there on the track. And I’m pretty satisfied that I came away with two wins and it’s also good for the championship. Now I’m only eight points behind my team mate Kenny.”
