Monster Energy Gallery from La Bañeza

Podium celebrations at a roasting Grand Prix of Spain were a rowdy affair for the Monster Army who filled four of the six spots on the MX1 and MX2 boxes at a rough but sun-drenched La Bañeza.

Hoisting trophies in the MX1 contest were Monster Energy’s David Philippaerts and Steven Frossard as the Yamaha duo came home in second and third positions. Soaking the fans packed around the podium area for the MX2 champagne spree was CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy Pro Circuit’s Tommy Searle and Monster Energy Yamaha’s Gautier Paulin on the second and third steps again.

La Bañeza was a gnarly set of hard-pack turns with a single flowing line that had many riders snapping at the heels of rivals looking for a passing opportunity that didn’t involve a harsh rub of plastic. Frossard was aggressive from the start and stole the first moto chequered flag with an early lead before defending the lead from world champ Tony Cairoli. Props to Philippaerts also after blasting back to form after heavy bails in Portugal one week ago.

“It wasn’t an easy track and I’ve been crashing too much recently but I went for it today and I’m happy to have made it back on the podium,” said ‘DP19’ after giving the 16,000 spectators a huge show.

The Monster Army will finally get some down time next week after three races on the spin. The crew will then face another trek across three countries with Sweden, Germany and Latvia up in July.
