Yes we’ve all thought about it, racing around the school playing field on your motocross bike waving at the teachers as you pull the biggest wheelie past the headmasters office – its never going to happen so don’t try it!
But Jamie Osborne did wow his friends with a full-throttle demo on a school football pitch.
Ten-year-old Jamie Osborne turned the field at Weston Coyney Junior School into a race track while the whole school looked on.
Jamie, from Weston Road, Weston Coyney, is currently top of the pile in a regional motocross competition, held in Kidderminster, after winning 12 races in a row.
And he is also making progress in the national championships for eight to 11 year olds, held at venues nationwide.
Headteacher Andrew Bamford organised the display so other pupils had a chance to see Jamie’s skills for themselves.
“Children amaze me with the things they do outside of school. We’ve heard about Jamie’s skills and it seemed natural to show the other pupils what he does,” he said.
“The children have enjoyed it, you can see it on their faces. It’s important for them to have interests outside of school and for us to celebrate achievement.”
Proud dad Steven Osborne, aged 37, watched the display alongside mum Paula, who owns a butchers in Longton Market.
Steven said: “He puts a lot into it, and he practices three or four times a week. He’s been doing well recently.
“Hopefully next year when he’s one of the older boys in the national competition he’ll be able to go for the big title.
“He loves it, and we’re hoping that one day he’ll be able to do it professionally. It’s a family affair, because we go across the country to watch him.”
Jamie said: “It was good for my mates to see me on my bike, we’ll talk about it at school.
“I do it a few times a week so it’s getting easier, I also do a lot of mountain biking and that keeps me fit and helps me with my gripping and stuff.
“My friends were trying to race against me, running alongside me around the field. It’s a shame I couldn’t do any jumps, I’ve jumped 50-foot once.
“But I still think my mates were impressed. They all liked it. I want to be a pro when I’m older and make my money doing it.”
Jamie’s specially-modified bike is worth £7,000, and the family have bought a mobile home so they can stay in comfort when travelling to races.
Mrs Osborne, aged 43, said it is worth every penny.
“Nobody bullies him into it, this is what he wants to do. It costs a lot of money but it’s worth it because it’s what he likes doing” she said.
“It’s great for him to do this in front of all the others, he works really hard at it and he really enjoys it.
“I can’t get him up most mornings, but on a motocross day he jumps out of bed and wakes us up.”
