Prayers for Ty Kellett the injured rider at Weston
I’ve known the Kellett family for quite a few years following and reporting on both Ty and his brother Todd in their quest to become motocross champions, last weekend at Weston when I was told that Ty was one of the riders injured my heart sunk as it really brings it home when you actually know a person involved.
Over the last few days since Sunday things have moved on for Ty he was taken to Weston General Hospital but later moved to Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital where he was operated on but still remains unconscious.
Only this year Ty was chosen as one of the riders to be filmed by Red Bull at the Elite youth series following their every move on and off the track from every round.
Ty’s grandfather Marshal Sturgeon said yesterday that Ty had been due to have an operation on his injured leg. Mr Sturgeon said: “It’s serious at the moment, it is still quite critical and he could be in a coma.
We are all in turmoil. All we can do is hope we are just all hoping and praying.
His other grandma is flying back from Switzerland and his mum and dad, Carol and Nibbs are at the hospital with him now. He’s only 16 and was racing in an elite group. His first Weston Beach Race was last year and he came 30th. Ty has just started studying at Bridgwater College. He has many, many friends from motocross so many people have turned up to know how he is.”
Ty is also a member of South Somerset Moto X Club.
South Somerset chairman Alan Bryant said: “We wish him a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with his family.”
Gareth Hockey was in talks with Somerset council yesterday about re-staging the event this weekend, but it doesn’t look positive.
RHL press officer Ian Wheeler said: “Discussions have been had with the council about what needs to be done and we are going away to see if it is possible to put those extra measures in place in time to stage the event this weekend.”
Expect an announcement sometime today regarding the event for this Sunday.
Our prays and thoughts are with Ty and the Kellett family – come on Ty be strong.

This kid rocks. I seen him at Culham only a few weekends ago at the combined Elite and 2 Stroke Championship round. He was riding a YZ250 and then coming in and jumping straight onto a CR500; back to back Willet style! Get well soon buddy.
