Finally, Katherine Prumm is in a good place.

This time last year the former world motocross champion was in a hospital bed, not knowing if she would walk again after breaking her back in three places.

A lapse of concentration during training caused Prumm to mistime a jump, landing heavily and plummeting three metres off the track.

She landed head-first next to a creek, with her bike crashing down on top of her. Terrifyingly, she could not feel her legs. A displaced vertebra was impinging on her spinal cord.

In a six-hour operation, surgeons repositioned the bone, fused the three fractured vertebrae to adjacent ones and stabilised the area with screws, rods and plates.
