RECORD CROWD EXPECTED AT BRITISH MXGP
RHL Activities Limited are predicting a record crowd at this year’s Motocross Grand Prix of Great Britain, which takes place on 30th and 31st May at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
Ticket sales, through the official event website at www.britishmxgp.com, are already 35% up compared to this time last year, as people take advantage of the huge savings to be made by purchasing tickets in advance.
A family weekend ticket purchased in advance via the website offers a saving of more than £70 on the gate price, while adult weekend tickets are £20 cheaper if purchased before 22nd May. These significant discounts have prompted motocross fans, from the United Kingdom and mainland Europe, to book early for this popular event.
“Last year was the first time we’d promoted the Motocross Grand Prix of Great Britain, and I don’t think people really knew what to expect ahead of the event,” explained Director of RHL Activities, Gareth Hockey. “I think a lot of people ended up being pleasantly surprised by the set-up at Mallory Park, and we certainly had a lot of positive feedback immediately after the event.”
“Ticket sales for this year’s British Grand Prix are already well ahead of where they were at this time last year, and we’re seeing a lot more tickets going outside of the United Kingdom as well. I think we’re in for a record crowd at Mallory Park this year, and the campsites, especially the platinum and family sites, are filling up fast.”
While the overall reaction to the 2008 Motocross Grand Prix of Great Britain was positive, the first running of the United Kingdom’s premier motocross event at what is primarily a road racing circuit, did generate some negative comments, which RHL Activities have taken onboard and addressed during the planning phase for this year’s event.
“Although the feedback was generally positive last year, we know that there are a number of areas in which we need to improve this time around. Ticket sales were an issue, which is why we’ve brought the whole thing in house this time around. We’ve looked very closely at the track layout, to ensure that it provides close and exciting racing, and we’ve also made changes to the area around the track to improve viewing for spectators. With a bigger crowd looking likely for this year’s event, this has been one of our priorities during the planning process, and I think we’ve come up with a solution that will suit everyone.”
“But it isn’t just the track itself we’ve been working to improve. We want to give this year’s event a real festival atmosphere, with enough going on to keep everyone entertained throughout the weekend. The World Supermoto race on the Saturday evening will be a real spectacle, and this will be followed by a packed programme of entertainment that will see everyone into the early hours of Sunday morning. Most importantly, for some people at least, I can promise that the bar prices will be much more reasonable this year, with our new supplier promising ‘pub prices’ at all outlets on site,” concluded Hockey.
