Without question the Red Bull Pro Nationals have given British motocross a shot in the arm this year and have all gone down a storm with riders, families and fans and the MC Federation are keen to keep the momentum going for 2010 and beyond.
For 2010 all eight rounds will also incorporate the Red Bull Elite Youth Cup and the Fuchs-Silkolene British 2-stroke championship over two days of race action in a real festival feel, the time tables for which will be announced shortly. It’s another positive step forward for the MCF as they try to build the Red Bull Pro Nationals up into one of Europe’s best domestic championships.
Events like the two rounds of the Red Bull Pro Nationals at Canada Heights this year proved to be the blueprint of what to expect and more. As MCF Chairman Matt Bates explains “We really want to create a motocross festival where we have everyone in UK motocross involved, adults, kids and all of the industry working together to take the sport to a higher level. We want to create a series where the youth riders can improve and be part of the bigger picture. I think this year we have started to do that with our Red Bull Elite Youth Cup and now the obvious progression is to have them racing with the pros at every event. With eight events with everyone in together we can throw everything at them and make them something special. Once again at every round of the new championship they’ll be freestyle motocross, the big TV screens, good informative commentary on a decent sound system, the motocross try-out area but we want to add more to that to make it appealing to the public and draw new people in. They’ll be live music on the Saturday evening and Sunday during the racing, more trade stands and just more sense of being at an event, and of course with the best riders in the country at every level the racing should be really exciting too.”
It’s not just the fans who’ll benefit from putting all the series together as one either. Riders, teams and even mechanics will benefit from the new approach. The prize money is likely to be pumped up for the riders and on top of that there’s talk of a manufactures cup for the teams with bonus money and improved media for them and all of their sponsors. The hard working mechanics look set to get a chance to earn some money too with bonus payment off the back of their rider’s performance, so expect to see the pit signals intensify!!
