After great success in the opening two rounds of this years Red Bull Pro Nationals, the Oakleaf Kawasaki Team and rider, 14 year old, Tommy Alba found themselves comfortably inside the top 10 of the Youth Rookie championship despite being in their debut season at national level, and last weekend they headed way up North from their South West base to compete in round 3, held on the outskirts of Whitby in North Yorkshire.

As qualifying got underway on Saturday morning, Tommy found the track to his liking and posted the 10th fastest lap time, although an extra half a second quicker would have placed Tommy on the edge of the top 5.
Race 1 got underway with Tommy running well up the order and right up with the leaders and after some entertaining battles he crossed the finish line in 3rd position.
Race 2 wasn’t so good for Tommy as he was forced out of the race by a broken clutch, but his mechanic Jason was straight onto the problem and a new one was fitted in time for Tommy to take the start of race 3, and by now the rain had come, making track conditions very slippery and tricky, Tommy rode well though and came across the finish line in 8th position.
Race 4 kicked off the team’s Sunday schedule and the sun had returned, a poor start left Tommy with a lot of work to do but he again rode well and managed to make his way upto 8th by the finish.
The rain had returned by the time the start of the 5th and final race of the weekend had got underway, and in conditions similar to those of race 3, Tommy rode really well and put himself in 3rd place and kept the position at the finish.
The results of the weekend left Tommy 6th overall, much to the delight of the team once again but it was a case of what could have been as with out the non-finish a podium place would have been a real possibility, Tommy now lies in 6th place in the championship standings, just 14 points behind 5th, in what is widely regarded as the UK’s premier youth motocross championship.
