A steady, safe seventh qualifying spot has set Team GB up nicely for the big day at tomorrow’s 66th MXoN, where a podium finish truly is within reach.
The three-man team of Tommy Searle, Jake Nicholls and Max Anstie rode to 10-5-4 finishes in their respective heats to safely see the team through to Sunday’s main event on equal points with defending champs, USA.
A bad start put team leader Tommy Searle on the back foot in MX1 but he rode a safe race from way back to 10th to kick things off trouble-free and he was followed up by two great rides from Jake Nicholls and Max Anstie to put us through. Nicholls ran as high as second in the early laps of the MX2 heat before succumbing to the likes of Blake Baggett and Marvin Musquin to register a solid fifth whilst Anstie was superb in MX3. The Honda man was challenging American ace Justin Barcia for the lead early on and despite a small fall still registered a great fourth place that suggests he’s legitimate top-three material in the open class.
Both riders and team manager Neil Prince were happy with the day’s performance as a warm up and were extremely confident of their chances of landing on the podium tomorrow. Here’s hoping they pull it off.
