One of the UK’s most popular motocross events took place on Sunday and it was a Brit that showed everyone else how it’s done, Shaun Simpson stole the show with two devastating victories from Redbull KTM team mate Rui Goncalves.
The young star had heaps of support from the cheering crowd and so he should as the Scottish star is really flying the flag for British motocross in 2009.
In MX1 the story was slightly different as two riders shared the wins, Marc De Reuver took moto one but big Ken De Dycker put his first race DNF behind to him to control from the front and win race two.
Top British rider was CCM’s Tom Church in sixth.
Here’s what happened at Hawkstone in pictures:

Simpson was dominate right from the drop of the gate in both races, if there’s one person to get behind in this years British and world championship it has got to be Simmo.

A rider who went slightly under the radar at Hawkstone was Shane Carless who ripped to a fourth place finish in moto one, “I had a great start and just went for it,” explained the welsh rider afterwards. Let’s hope this continues next week at Canada Heights.

Teka Suzuki has a young rider to keep an eye on in 2009 and that is Xavier Boog, he chased Simpson and Goncalves all day but had to settle for two third place finishes in both moto’s.

Mark Jones talks to his fans about his recent “Moto Cribs video” and probably explaining what life is like as a landlord and Porsche driver.

After a horrific start straight crash Gordon Crockard is being attended to by the medics, let’s just hope Gordy makes a full recovery and returns to the track soon – all the best GC from MOTO.

Inches from disaster as the newly styled Samsung truck misses both the CAS Honda and CCM awning in what could have been a costly reversing exercise on day one of the season.

Kevin Strijbos is showing great early season form but Billy Mackenzie’s first race third position was cancelled out with a second moto DNF after a get off early in the race.

The crowds were out in force this year, thankfully the sun shined for most of the day and CCM rider Jason Dougan showed that he has the pace after last week’s disaster at Little Silver – is Dougie going to be a dark horse for the MX1 British title this year we wonder?

Eric Eggens still has it, another good day for the Dutch sand master finishing fifth overall.
Don’t forget folks the MOTO Motion video will be online tomorrow – best get your popcorn supply in as its going to be darn good.
