Young Latvian star Matiss Karro rides for the Wilvo Forkrent KTM team in the MXGP class of the FIM World Championship. He is a nine-time Latvian champion, and has also competed with distinction in the British Championship.
‘Karro the Arrow’ was born on 21st October 1991 in Riga, and grew up inspired by riders such as Stefan Everts, Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart. At the age of 14, he finished tenth overall in the junior 85cc class of the World Championship, riding a Honda, but he first made a name for himself in 2008, when, just one year after his GP debut in Northern Ireland, he was crowned world junior champion in the MX2 class.
He competed in MX2 until 2011. Riding a Suzuki for the 2009 and 2010 seasons, he finished 22nd and 16th respectively, and, for his last year in the division, he rode a Honda to 22nd place overall. Since moving to MX1, he has performed creditably, with two top twenty finishes on board a KTM.
He has also made four appearances at the Motocross of Nations – riding a Suzuki in 2008, he was part of a Latvian team which finished 16th. Continuing with a Suzuki for 2009 and 2010, he finished 17th both years, and in 2013 he finished 16th on a KTM.
