Nathan Watson competes in the MX1 class of the Maxxis British Championship as part of the Dantec Husqvarna UK team. He is undoubtedly one of Britain’s hottest young motocross talents, and his potential was rewarded in 2014 when he acted as a replacement rider for Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing at round 11 of the FIM MXGP World Championship.
Nathan started racing when he was nine years old at club level, before progressing to the British Youth Championships in 2006. In 2009 he won the Red Bull Pro Nationals in the 85bw class, and in 2011 won the Red Bull Pro National Championships on a 250F. In 2012 he raced the MX2 class in the British Championship and the Red Bull Pro Nationals.
In 2013, he continued to compete in MX2 on a KTM, and he finished the British Championship sixth overall. Highlight of the season was round seven at Hawkstone Park – in the first race, he charged from 12th on the first lap to take a well-deserved second place, before winning the second and third races, to claim his first-ever overall victory in the competition.
He switched to a Husqvarna in 2014, and took the step up to MX1. It was a smooth progression – at the second round in Lyng in Norfolk, Nathan rocketed out of the gate in the first race to take the holeshot, finished third in the second race, and won the third race, his first MX1 race win in the British Championship, to put him fifth overall on the day.
