Aubin takes top spot in Red Bull Pro Nationals

Nico Aubin took charge of the championship leader`s red plate at the weekend`s Red Bull Pro National race at Canada Heights in Kent. The MX1 Buildbase Honda rider took the overall win after another action packed day on a constantly changing, technical circuit.

The weather had a great deal to play over the weekend, with blazing sunshine followed by bursts of rain, turning the track from quite hard-pack into a soft, rutty mess in one moto, then back to “tacky” in a matter of minutes.

Red Bull Pro National qualifying saw Aubin trailing the leaders for much of the session, then launch the CRF450 to the front of the field on the very last lap to take pole position.

Moto 1 was led from start to finish by Martin Barr who took the win from Jason Dougan with Alex Snow a steady but distant third. Nico was forced to come through from a poor start and a first turn incident which included series leader Stephen Sword who started the race in last place. Nico`s reward was fourth spot.

No mistakes off the line from the French Buildbase rider in moto 2, as he took a massive holeshot and didn`t look back. Sword was persistent and threatening second for the first half of the race but Aubin was always in control and at the flag won the race by 30 seconds to take the overall win on the day and joint lead in the championship. (Aubin takes the red plate ahead of joint leader Sword due to his overall wins in the series so far).

AUBIN – “ Yes, this was a good day. I am very happy. The bike is good, I am getting back to form and I am beginning to ride how I know I can. I am looking forward to Hawkstone Park”.

After a tough day, two, top ten positions in the MX2 race consolidated Jordan Booker`s position in 8th place overall in the championship.

Three wins and two second places confirms Josh Gilbert`s position at the top of the Big Wheel Red Bull Elite Youth Cup Championship.

Gilbert was in stunning form throughout the weekend on the Buildbase Albion 150 four-stroke Honda and now has his sights firmly set on the title.

GILBERT – “This weekend was tough. The track was so difficult but I`m very pleased to have won. The conditions were well suited to the four-stroke power of my 150, when it became wetter, I could find traction where everyone else was slipping around. I just have to focus on Hawkstone Park now. I can`t wait”.
