Brierley Hill MCC 6/7/2008

Last weekend amidst much controversy Brierley Hill MCC held their first meeting of the 2008 season at Camp Lane Great Whitley.

A local un named resident did everything in his power to stop the meeting, lobbying fellow residents and councillors he failed miserably and the meeting went ahead, in fact the only thing which threatened the meeting was the weather. Heavy rain Saturday then again on Sunday left the virgin track very slippery for the practice and most of the first block of racing. Luckily the sun came out and dried the track considerably making for some excellent racing but true to form the great British weather took a turn for the worse with torrential rain leaving the track un ride able and the meeting being abandoned midway through the third block of racing.

The meeting itself was full of incident, a couple of red flags caused a few delays , one of which required a visit from the air ambulance for our own Steve Chamberlain who suffered a nasty fall on the big down hill section. Andy Mantle the announcer from BH MCC suffered a couple of nasty shocks from a faulty pa system before seeing one of the units go up in smoke, a young BH MCC member bounced one of the stake bumpers off his head leaving out cold for a few minutes then finally through no fault of the clubs, competitors had to wait hours to be towed out of the paddock by a trio of tractors.

Despite the conditions Kinver riders managed to pick up three trophies on the day James Shand in the MX2 experts made light work of the heavy going finishing with a 2-2-1 for thirty nine points and second overall. Jack Price in the under 18 juniors had a baptism of fire on his new 125cc machine finishing with a 2-2-3 for thirty four points and second overall. The inters were one of the groups to fall foul of the reduced racing Ben Hodgkins stormed the first race but fell of a few corners from the end in the second race but still managed to finish with twenty one points and third overall from their two races.

Tom Weston and Sam Price both managed to get into double figures in the MX 2 experts scoring seventeen and fifteen points respectfully. Mick Hudson and Gary Bate in the MX1 seniors also got into double figures Mick picked sixteen points and Gary fifteen points.
