Cotswold Enduro Club Club Championship, Round 8 – Winkworth Farm, Lea

An unexpectedly bright and sunny morning greeted the 175 riders taking part in the final round of the 2009 Cotswold Club Championship meeting at Winkworth Farm, near Malmesbury, on Sunday. The previous day’s heavy rains were still evident on the ground however, as the 5.9 mile predominantly grass track course was relentlessly slick, and repeatedly punished riders who got even slightly over enthusiastic with the gas.

At the close of the shortened two and a half hour race (cut from the original three hours due to concerns about the overall state of the course owing to conditions) it was Tom Hirons who took the overall win, having completed 11 laps in a time of 2 hours 41 minutes.
