East Kent Report. Summer Championship Round 12
The strong winds of the previous week had disappeared on the Sunday morning as riders and supporters gathered for the final round of the summer championship. Many places had already been decided but there were still points to be had. The track had been prepared brilliantly once more by Chris, the landowner (thanks!) and the day promised to bring the usual excitement.
First out were the Seniors and a slightly altered first corner proved to be a challenge but Shaun Springer made it look easy and led from start to finish, taking all three motos – as usual! Adam Cooper got the holeshot in the 2nd race and led for a couple of laps, but a slight error on a corner gave Shaun the chance he was looking for and he led for the rest of the race. Piers Skinner rode fast and consistently to take second overall with Adam Cooper in third.
The AMX group was dominated by Louis Waugh who, having now found his form, is practically unstoppable. He also took all three race wins with Joe Cundle riding very smoothly as always to take second. Graham Heasman’s seemingly effortless riding gave him two third spots but bike trouble in the 3rd race meant that Brian Carter took the overall third place in the end. Nice to see former club member Ben Taylor get third in the final moto too!
The BW 85 group displayed the usual tag racing at the front with Lewis Dowsett and Jack Eldridge vying for the win. But visitor Daniel Clark held them off to take the win in the first moto, with Lewis having to settle for 2nd and Jack out of the running with a puncture. Lewis took the next chequered flag, with Jack winning the final race. Consistent riding in the top places gave Zach Peters second overall, behind Lewis in first spot. The third step on the podium was Jack Eldridge’s this week.
The SW 85 group is one of the most exciting to watch as there are many fast riders! The honours this week went to Jack Wilson, with a win, a second and a third in the three races. Second place was awarded to Mitchell Lewis who had two wins, but was outside the top 3 in the second race. Third place went to Daniel Packman, who rode yet another fast and consistent meeting.
The Juniors’ top points went to Nathan Turner-Whittle this week with some fast solid racing. Tom Lockhart won his first ever race in moto 3 and finished in second place overall – well done Tom – and Albie Wilkie, despite winning the first two motos, had bike trouble in the last and finished off the podium for the first time this season! Visitor Jamie Clark rode three good races to take third overall.
Gary Ashley rode his fastest this week in the autos and a first and two seconds gave him a well deserved overall win. Steady riding round a very fast track gave Reagan Brooks second and Charlie Burt third spot on the podium.
No major injuries and the sun shone most of the day – who could ask for more! Our thanks go to the medics, the landowner, the committee, lapscorers and the guys who prepare the track. Another successful championship completed! Come and have some fun next week at Riverside for a Best Pairs competition.
