Jack Brunell is the Prince of Stuttgart 2009
Sensational ADAC SX Cup opener for the 20-year-old Englishman
With a new attendance record at the 27th Supercross Stuttgart, the 2009/2010 ADAC SX Cup started last weekend (13th – 14th November). A total of 15,830 spectators came on the two days in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle to witness the Sturm Racing Team youngster Jack Brunell from Old Windsor, claim the top step of the podium on both nights in the SX2 class and secure the title “Prince of Stuttgart 2009″.

Already in the first free practice session on Friday – the “Night of the Aces” – the 20-year-old posted the third-fastest time in his group to show just how well he had adapted to the conditions of the track, which was designed by the Belgian Freddy Verherstraeten. In the time practice, Jack came in amongst the top three in his group, which secured him a good starting place in the motos on the evening.
„The track was very sticky and nice to ride. The jumps got a little rutty and it was hard to put a good lap in. I was happy with timed practice although I crashed twice which wasn’t good. My last lap was my only fast lap so I finished the session in 3rd which gave me a quite good gate.“
Unfortunately, in the first race Jack was unable to benefit from his starting position. After a far from perfect start in the first moto, Jack had to come from the back of the pack. But within a few laps he managed to ride up to fourth place. After a hit by another rider and a few little mistakes Jack fell behind teammate Shannon Terreblanche to sixth place, in which he finished the race.
In the second moto Jacko got the best gate and snatched the holeshot. He defended his lead over the entire race of ten laps and crossed the finish line as winner with almost three seconds ahead of the second placed rider. With one 6th place and one victory from both motos, a quite satisfied Jack Brunell climbed onto the top step of the SX2 podium at the end of the day.
„The first race started bad. I hit the start gate and was last of the start. It was difficult to pass but I made my way up to 4th. I got hit by Berthome and went back to 5th. I then made some silly mistakes and lost another position and finished 6th. In the second race, I moved position on the start and got the holeshot. I just rode my own race and won comfortably. Overall, I was very happy because I got the overall win. I didn’t expect to win the overall after finishing 6th, but with Supercross anything can happen.“
On Saturday – the “Night of the Revenge” – Jack posted again in the time practice the third-fastest lap in his group to secure a favourable start position at the gate for the two motos. This time he used the good starting place consistency in both races. Jack grabbed the holeshot twice and both times he pulled a small gap. Unfortunately, minor mistakes prevented from taking the victories. He finished race one in second behind Filip Thureson. In the second race he crossed the finish line in 2nd again, this time just behind Dennis Baudrexl. But this was enough at the end of the event to stand again as the SX2 winner on the podium.
„In the first race I got the holeshot and tried to pull away but I was making mistakes. I got passed and decided to settle for 2nd place. The overall position is what counts. In the second race, I got the holeshot again! I really had my starts dialled in. I rode a strong race, it was close but with a few laps I pulled a small gap. I made a mistake and hit a hay bale. I still thought I had quite a big gap but Dennis came through the whoops so fast and caught me. We jumped together and hit in the air but he had the inside so was able to make the pass. I finished 2nd which I wasn’t very happy about, but I won the overall which is good.“
With his two victories, Jack also secured the SX2 overall title “Prince of Stuttgart, 2009″ and has a comfortable lead in the ADAC SX Cup. With a 26-point lead, he travels to the 7th International Einsiedler Supercross in Chemnitz for the second round of the ADAC SX Cup.
„Overall I am very happy. I had very good starts and looking back, I should have won the both the races. I am very happy to have won both nights and
become the Prince of Stuttgart. I have a good lead in the championship and I am looking forward to Chemnitz. I would like to thank Robbie for giving me a super bike and all my sponsors.“
