Nagl is KTM’s double power pack for resounding MX1 GP victory in France
Max Nagl of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team put in a perfect day’s MX1 racing on Sunday at the French GP to be the clear winner of both motos for his second career GP victory. The win elevated him into third place in the championship standings.
Nagl put in two of his characteristic blitz starts and looked unbeatable in both motos as he relished the conditions that changed from wet to dry several times during the races. “I like this kind of condition very much – when it rains and then dries out,” the German rider said after the second moto. “Now I am third in the championship, it’s my second GP win and I am very happy.” Nagl won the first moto with a margin of 16 seconds and the second with a margin of 12.
Second career GP win for Nagl
Max Nagl: “It was very good to win my second GP after Faenza (2008). I liked this track right from the start. There are not so many lines and you can use your power – and I have plenty of that! After the qualification I did expect a bit more from Desalle, but today I was fast. I had some problems with the roll-offs on my goggles in the first heat but the second heat was easier for me – and there was a big gap between me and the guy who was second,” he said. At one point Max had a 28-second lead in heat two and that allowed him to wrap up the race – and the GP – in relative comfort. Like Max, many riders had trouble with visibility as the intermittent rain churned up mud on the circuit.
Barragan out with injury
KTM factory rider Jonathan Barragan of Team Silver Action did not compete on Sunday as a result of a mid week training accident. He is currently recovering after surgery and it is not yet known when he will be returning to the track. KTM factory team boss Stefan Everts and the members of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team sent their best wishes to Jonathan for a speedy recovery and a healthy return to racing with his KTM factory bike.
