Paulin suffers setback in Belgian sand GP

Gautier Paulin has suffered a setback in his fight for the MX2 title after a demanding Lommel GP held in Belgium over the weekend. The Bud Racing Kawasaki rider was dealt a tough blow in his Saturday qualifying session when he was forced to retire with a mechanical problem which would inevitably place him on the last gate pick for Sunday’s 2 x 35 minute moto’s. The announcement of the French MX of Nations team at Saturday’s press conference eased Paulin’s disappointment as he was chosen to represent Team France in Italy later this year.

An unexpected change of weather and continuous morning rain added to the already grueling track conditions. As the first MX2 moto got underway Paulin would have his work cut out for him coming from the back of the pack. The nineteen-year-old Frenchman fought for every position possible and broke into the top 15 just over the halfway mark where he stayed until the chequered flag.

With skies finally clearing for the final MX2 moto Paulin would have another mammoth task ahead as he completed the first lap in 30th position. Never giving up, he pushed his Kawasaki to the limit and claimed a commendable 13th spot by the end of the race.

“‘I trained hard before this race but it was a tough weekend for us. I had a good feeling on the track and felt well physically but this weekend everything went wrong despite the hard work of the team. We had to make changes to the bike and I gave everything on the track so I have no regrets even if I lost many points. I’m still motivated and I will have belief in my chances until the last race. Next week in Loket will be different, and at the end of the month I want to prove in Lierop that I can ride fast in the sand.’ vowed the youngster.

Round 13 of the 15 round series will take place in Loket in the Czech Republic next weekend.
