Pioneer Emberson Yamaha arrived at a sun drenched Hawkstone Park for the final round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship looking to go out on a good showing but were only at full strength in the MX2 class as Wayne Smith unfortunately had to sit out the event due to a broken foot after a midweek training accident. This left Dan Arnold (left) qualifying in MX2 in 17th with Alan Keet and Robert Hamilton in 20th and 28th respectively.

MX2

The Pioneer Emberson Yamahas were mid pack after the gate had dropped in race one with Daniel Arnold heading the Pioneer charge in 14th after the opening lap with Hamilton in 17th and Keet in 19th. The racing was fast and the Hawkstone track not as rough as normal and passing was also harder. At half race distance the Yamaha trio were in static positions but it was Arnold who made the best progress throughout pulling up to a fine 12th with Hamilton and Keet both making the points in 16th and 18th.
Race two and this time it was Hamilton who was the quickest out the gate and into 10th on lap one with Arnold four places back, again in 14th and Keet in 21st. As the race progressed in the early laps Hamilton slipped back into the clutches of Keet as he moved up the order several places while Dan was having his own personal battle with Mel Pocock. Only five seconds were separating the three Pioneer Emberson Yamahas as they reached halfway and although Hamilton and Keet were not moving further up the order Arnold had the bit between his teeth and was pushing on to his best finish of the season to finally take a fine 9th at the chequered flag. Hamilton and Keet both finished in the points again only a couple of seconds splitting the pair at the end with Hamilton coming out on top in 15th with Keet just behind in 16th.
