SILEIKA SCORES THREE IN A ROW EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP FULL HOUSE

06:24AM Thu, 5th July 2012

Thomas Sileika has certainly done his bit to fly the Latvian flag high of late. In three European championship motocross outings in succession, the teenager has been unbeaten, scoring a full complement of 150 points for the three events. Compared to some of the previous races, the last event was a mere walk in the park away, at Turi in neighbouring Estonia.

The Baltic region is stacked to the rafters with racing talent, and Thomas was surely not going to have to overcome some serious opposition if he were to continue on his winning ways. Estonian speedster Hendrik Talviku topped him by 4/100ths of a second in the qualifying session, but after that the Latvian opened up the sluice gates and completely flooded the opposition. He rode to two dominating race victories, collecting a full complement of 50 points for his troubles.

Although his season has been compromised by an injury and two  missed events respectively, Thomas has now hauled himself up to third position in the final championship standings. He has thus qualified to participate in the European final in the UK later in the year.
