Peterborough Junior Motocross riders kicked off the season at the fully revamped Buttercup MX track in Chatteris for the first round of the club championship. A lot of work has gone in to the track over the winter resulting in plenty new features in the track and new challenges for the riders.
Greeted by glorious sunshine the Youth 125’s were first to the line. Jordan Hind took a liking to the new track taking the hole shot and leading race one from start to finish. John Hall was also flying and hung on the back of Jordan right to the end of the race. Frederick White put in a storming performance to take a well deserved third place. In race two Jordan and John were at it again with some close racing until a mechanical failure put John out of the race leaving Jordan to head home with a reasonable gap over Aaron Edwards who had stepped up his game. Unfortunately Fred crashed out of race two and couldn’t finish the day. In the final race Jordan led from the start and took maximum points with John Hall coming home second on a borrowed bike and Aaron in Third.
Next up was the Under 35 Adults and Rob Flaherty was well in control of this group putting in three outstanding rides and finishing well ahead of the field in each race. Scott Sparrow was on good form taking a solid second place in the first two races and holeshoting race two along the way. Unfortunately problems in race three dropped him off the podium overall. This left Ben Simons and Lee Shail to fight it out for second place overall. With both riders going well it could have gone either way. Despite a second place finish in the last race Lee was pipped to second by Ben by one point!
The over 35 Adults took to the track next and Anthony Hilton and Lee Keyton were both on top form. For most of race one they were having an immense battle, but by the end Anthony had just edged away leaving Lee in second and a flying Mick Flaherty in third. In race two Anthony took the honours again with Lee in second and this time Michael Leech had fought his way through to third. In the final race Lee took a well deserved win from Anthony with Michael in third. Unfortunately Anthony’s points from race one were docked due to a technicality leaving Lee Keyton to pick up the overall honours with Michael Leach in second and Mick Flaherty in third.
In the Big Wheel 85’s Jordan Moxey was in a class of his own finishing well ahead of the pack and showing plenty of style along the way. Emma Richards put in a great performance and took second overall for her efforts. Jack short also had a good day setting a good pace and taking the last place on the podium
In the Small Wheel 85’s it was Thomas Brown who stole the show taking the win in every race and the overall. Tallon Marshall was also in good form taking a solid second place in every race. Ty- Reiss Veness got on well with the new track and came home in a well deserved third place in every race.
A good line up of auto racers were on the line today and with deep ruts developing in some places of the track all of them did exceptionally well. Drew Kemp was on the gas all day taking a comfortable win in every race. Jacob Cliften showed good pace and followed Drew home in race one with Thomas White in third. Thomas upped his game for the rest of the day taking two seconds in race two and three for second overall. Jason Edwards also rode really well with his 4/3/3 score card enough to take the last spot on the podium.
Finally the Junior 65’s took to the track. Bradley Fairbrother did a cracking job and showed the rest of the field the way home in all three races. Lewis Taylor was also on the gas and followed Bradley home in race one and three and did enough for third overall. Second overall went to a very consistent Daniel Edwards who was riding well all day. Unluckiest rider of the day was Bailey Clifton who took fourth in race one and second in race two, but a dnf in the last race spoiled his day. Fast starting Amy Mannings was also in good form taking a holeshot and coming home fourth overall.
