SUMMER MOTOX RACING AT ITS BEST

The Woodside track had been meticulously prepared by a small but dedicated workparty during the previous few days. The water pumps had been out n things were lookin great, the slightly overcast skys along with a wee breeze were doing their best to stop the temperatures from sooring, however it was still pretty hot as the pits were starting to fill up. Scrutineering and signing on got into full swing and before You knew it practice was underway.

As the Riders came back in from practice, feedback was good, loads o grip, very little stoor, looked like we were in for one top notch days racing , thank goodness for that after all the work that a small band of workers had put into the preparation of the circuit. ( C’mon guys n galls, we need more peeps at the next workparty).

It was the Schoolboys n Girls that were out first, all classes were well supported, which made for some very good racing with a rather crowded first corner as everyone battled to get round the tight 180 degree turn with sand flying everywhere as the bikes powered thru n off the berms.

The Auto Class was dominated by Young Kirk Watson of Elgin with three race wins, taking the overall honours by 9 points ahead of Ciarra Robertson who in turn was 6 points ahead of Emma Carlton. Well done Girls, these boys had better watch out, coz its obvious that u 2 are heading for the top. The speed of these wee 50cc bikes n there riders has to be seen to be believed.

Meanwhile the 65cc class were hard at it on the big track, n guess what, yep……… Ben Edwards of Elgin was showing of his racing skills yet again, clearing of with 3 race wins, followed home in each race by Forres Youngster Daniel Dey, ( who’s race pace is definately improving). 3rd spot went to Finlay Retson of Inverness, this Young Man’s speed has definately moved up a gearfar as the riders battled their way thru the Woodside sand.

The small wheeled 85cc class saw a change at the top, as fancied top runner Ian Findlay took a tumble in race 1 and failed to take any further part in the days proceedings, this left Ash Darling looking like he was gonna nail it goodstyle, however, he 2 hit the dirt off the big tabletop n straight into the chesnut fencing…. ouch. This left the 2 Kierrans to battle it out for top spot, at the end of race 3 , by 2 points, the Victor was Young Mr McCarroll of Forres with Kierran Hunter finishing 2nd overall, all KTM mounted.

As the big wheeled 85cc class shot out of the startgates, it was obvious that there was gonna be some pretty close racing throughout the day. Aidan Christie of Grangemouth forced his way to the front, taking the win in R1 closely followed by Kyle Angus from Thurso with local loon, Josh Craig snapping at their heels in 3rd spot. At the end of the day it was Kyle Angus who took the overall result from Josh Craig by a mere 2 points, 3rd spot went to Shawn Sinclair of Elgin who improved in every race. Jordan Bhatti was giving Shawn a good race for his money up until mid way thru race 3, as a nasty tumble on a down hill section saw him being stretchered off.

Next up was the 125/250cc Class with Iain Mackenzie of Keith back at the Top with 3 clear race wins. Neil Farquhar put in his best performance yet, taking a well deserved 2 nd o/a with Jodi Grigor of Lossie in 3rd, Grant Guest was flying up until he booked a run in the local Ambulance to Dr Grays, here’s to a speedy recovery.

The Adult C group saw the biggest line up of the day with competitors ranging in age from 16 to 66, thats rite folks, a span of 50 years. The overall Honours went to Elgin loon John Stewart with 2 winns and a 2nd , Ian Souter was well adrift from john on points but still managed to take 2nd overall with 3 steady rides Neil George from lossie had a bad day finishing out of the results, that’s no like him, best watch out at the next meeting. In 3rd place it was Darren Smith grinning from ear to ear as he picked up a well deserved trophy and a place on the podium. The competition had been very intense throughout all three races and it was consistancy that paid off.

The B group Adults saw another member of the George Clann (Jamie) take the overall Win with 3 race wins with runner up spot going to the young pretender John Kirk who was never very far behind. Lewis Dawson o Dufftown, chased hard in R1 and R2 settling for 2 third places, but had apoor result in race 3, but still managed to grab 3rd overall ahead of Veteran Brian Fraser. A special mention to Ewan Harvey of Elgin, first time out on a motox bike for years and he still manages to take 5th overall on the day.

The Premier A class, alhough not high in numbers, certainly made up for it by providing an excellant demonstration of high speed racing manouvres with spectacular jumps thrown in for good measure, just how can they do that, one asks himself. Tony Craig fae Inverbervie used it as a traing day, casually disappearing into the distance as he left Aaron McCarroll of Forres to battle it out with Frazer Norrie and Shawn Stewart of Lossie for the lesser placings, after a hard days racing, that was the order they finished in, hats off 2 u boys, that as well worth watching.
There were quite a few other top runners who did not feature in the results as the demanding Woodside Circuittook its tole on a few, U gotta treat it with respect Boys n Girls, otherwize it bites back. Well done lads, great entertainment for one n all.

A big thanku to Heillan Loos for sponsoring the event and all the Marshalls, Offcials, First Aiders etc who all made this days racing the great success that it was, our next event is on the 13th of September which will also be Round 8 of the North East Area Championship. Championships
