Thor’s Winning Weekend Starts with Blake Baggett Securing First Professional Championship

After collecting the coveted red plate at Round 1 of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett held onto that lead throughout the summer and delivered his first professional championship.

At Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Lake Elsinore, Calif., Baggett started the day with his 10th moto win of the season, and followed it up with a second-place finish in Moto 2.  The 1-2 finish was plenty to claim his fifth overall victory of the year and secure the championship.

In the 450 class, Broc Tickle raced through the heat and tough track to finish with a 3-3 to claim his fourth overall podium finish of the season. Tyla Rattray also had a solid day, racing to a 4-4 finish for fourth overall. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer posted a 5-9 finish for fifth overall. Weimer’s consistent year placed him third overall in the points standings, while Broc Tickle finished fifth in the overall standings. Despite missing the first five races, Tyla Rattray still placed 10th in the points standings.

Also taking place on Saturday was the AMA National Hare and Hound Series in Panaca, Nev. After posting the series’ first four race wins, injury took Thor’s Kurt Caselli out of competition for several months, but he picked up where he left off in Nevada. He grabbed the holeshot at the end of the bomb start and earned his fifth win of the season. Caselli sits in second in the points standings with just two races remaining in the series.

Even though Thor’s Taylor Robert had already clinched the WORCS championship at the previous round, he still had something to prove. He went out at Honolulu Hill Raceway in Taft, Calif. earning his seventh win at the final race of the season.

Making it a four-win weekend for Thor was Charlie Mullins, who captured his first AMA National Enduro win of the season in Park Hills, Mo. When the final results were in, Mullins had won four out of the six tests and his finishing time was over a minute and a half ahead of second place finisher Russell Bobbitt. Thor’s Bobbitt won the final two tests of the day, giving Thor all the test victories at the eighth round of the season.
