The day started early with Connor Walkley taking to the track first for his timed qualification session. Soon after the timing board went out to signal the start of the session, Connor suffered a problem with his bike at the far side of the circuit and had to run back to the work area and collect his spare bike. With limited time out on track Connor was still able to post 23rd fastest.
In the MX1 class Ray Rowson hoped to post a strong time that would see him transfer into the Superpole session. With a strong line up of wild card entries, Ray was unlucky to miss the Superpole with a 15th place.
After the lunch break it was time for the main championship races and first up was the MX2 race. Connor suffered a terrible start and rounded the opening lap near the back of field and having a lot of work to do. As the race went on Connor was able to move forward, eventually finishing in 22nd place and just outside the points.
The first MX1 race of the day saw Ray make a strong start inside the top 6 but came together with another rider which cost him a few places but Ray was able to produce some good lap times and move forward into 8th place. Unfortunately with a couple of laps to go Ray made a small mistake and slipped back to 11th at the finish.
In the second MX2 race of the day, Connor was looking to produce a strong result that would see him qualify for the Superfinal later in the day. After making a good start Connor was well inside the top 15 following the opening lap. Connor soon settled down into a good rhythm and rode solid all race long to finish in 12th place.
The second MX1 race would again see Ray make a solid start and end the first lap in 12th place. As the race went on Ray was able to move forward into 10th place before losing a position on the final lap to finish 11th.
The final race of the race was the combined MX1 and MX2 race where the top 20 riders from each class would race together. As the gate dropped Ray made a good start and missed the crash on the entrance to the famous Hawkstone Tunnel. Connor suffered a bad start and got boxed in on the first lap, things went from bad to worse for Connor when the bike stopped on the third lap. Ray was riding well but made a few mistakes and would eventually retire from the race.
Today had its ups and downs. I’ve suffered some bad luck with bike trouble, but I was able to put in a good result in the second race, which I was happy with. I know from that race I can run top 10 pace so I just need to build on that for next weekend.
It hasn’t been the best of weekend, this weekend. I had a really bad last race, but the first race was ok and I was going ok in the second but lost my head in the last few laps. So all in all not the best weekend and we just move forward to next weekend.
We started off the day with a couple of problems and ended the day with a couple! But the bit in between was pretty good and I was happy with how things have gone otherwise. Connor suffered a problem in qualifying and then a bad start in the first race which resulted in a 22nd place finish. The second race was much better and he finished 12th and qualified for the Superfinal which was a major improvement after failing to get into the Superfinal at Milton Park. In the last race Connor’s bike developed a fueling problem and eventually came to a halt. Ray qualified 15th in MX1, which wasn’t too bad considering the wild cards. He got a good start in the first race and collided with another rider and broke the side panel and with the panel hanging down it got in the way of his foot peg which effected his riding, but brought it home in 11th place. The second race he worked hard to again finish in 11th place. Then in the Superfinal he was running 12th from the start and making good progress, but also had a problem and unfortunately had to retire a few laps from the end which was a shame because he would of ended up inside the top ten overall. This weekend we suffered some rare bike problems, but we will work them out through the week and be back strong for next week.
