Tough weekend for HM Honda Zanardo in Sweden

The HM Honda Zanardo team concluded a tough weekend at the Swedish Grand Prix as both riders struggled to find front running pace during round six of the Enduro World Championship in Karlsborg.

The special line test in the forest was held in sandy and muddy ground along with a cross test on soft ground. The extreme test was a tough challenge of obstacles including tree trunks and large tyres, which formed the background of a race in which Simone Albergoni and Rodrig Thain never managed to be among the top challengers of the E1 class for the first of the northern Europe double header.

Albergoni struggled to find the right pace, finishing eleventh on Saturday due to a one-minute penalty after replacing a broken radiator because of a fall in the line test. The Italian rider managed to finish sixth on Sunday. Thain was sixth on Saturday, and seventh on Sunday, as he never found an easy rhythm during the various specials.

Unfortunately Thain also lost second position in the series standings, and he is now third behind Antoine Meo and Eero Remes. This is something the French rider will be looking to resolve next weekend in Finland.

Simone Albergoni
“I trained a lot for this race, but evidently it was just not to be. I struggled all through the weekend in all of the tests. On Saturday I crashed, breaking the radiator and I took a minute of penalty while I was repairing it. What could I do? On Sunday I tried to attack, but after the fall in the special test I decided to be more careful. I’m not content with the results, but it’s a race to put behind us.”

Rodrig Thain
“I’m really sorry because I did my best, but I was not able to race good on this ground. I’m really disappointed with the results and we hope to improve things next time out.”

Franco Mary – HM Honda Zanardo Team Manager
“We knew it would be a difficult GP; unfortunately our riders failed to achieve the goals we set at the beginning. We will work hard to find the best way to head into next weekend in Finland with the aim of putting our results back on track. We hope to find a ground better suited for our riders, even if the weather is not good and it is predicted that it will rain with temperatures much lower than in Italy”.
