Following three thrilling rounds of the 2010 Wulfsport British Masters, the series hits the midway point on the weekend of June 5th/6th with a visit to the famous Foxhill Moto Parc, near Swindon,Wiltshire. With then just a further three rounds to come, the battle heat will certainly intensify as riders approach the business end of the season, chasing their share of what is one of the largest overall MX prize funds in Europe.

In Pro MX1,Scott Elderfield had led proceedings before being overhauled at Whitby by Gordon Crockard. Although Crockard’s advantage is just a current ten points, his series lead as been built on very impressive consistency in what as proved to be an ultra-competitive,spectacular class. Already in Pro MX1,Crockard(2),Elderfield,Brad Anderson,Martin Barr and Ben LaMay have recorded moto wins. Expect the rivalry to continue at Foxhill with Jamie Lewis,James Noble, Wayne Garrett,Nathan Parker,Kevin Wells and John May also in the mix and looking to improve their current standings within the top ten.

Although Elderfield has lost his Pro MX1 lead,he still dictates proceedings in the Pro MX2 series, holding an 80 point advantage over current second place rider James Dodd. Dodd though is under intense pressure to maintain his placing from the hard charging Barr,Luke Mellows and top AMCA rider Lee Dunham.Unfortunately, though Dunham will be absent from Foxhills as he is away on IMBA European Championship duty in France. Despite not competing in round one at Mallory Park,Barr is definitely the in-form rider in MX2 and after winning both races at Whitby,he will certainly be the rider to beat at Foxhill.

The Proppa.com MXY2 clashes continue to thrill, and in the race to win a 2011 250F bike and race gear,it’s still the ultra consistent Alexander Hussey who leads the way although he is just a very narrow two points ahead of Dan Thornhill. Proving just what quality and strength in depth this class possesses,so far James Dunn(4),Christian Taylor(3), Luke Norris(3),Luke Dean and Damon Wales have picked up the moto wins.At present less than 35 points separates the top four of Hussey,Thornhill,Ryan Williams and Dunn. But with another 200 points up for grabs, expect Foxhill to produce yet more great action.

In the Moto-Pro Suspension Mini Masters, just 29 points separates the current BW85cc top three of Sam Winterburn,Adam Darbyshire and Murray Clunie.Over in SW85cc,Casey Connelly holds a 45 point advantage over Tyron Cleaver with Charlie Hamlet just a further 6 points behind in 3rd.

Zac Stealey and Tom Watts are currently dominating the Kawasaki Masters class, battling for the right to pick up a brand new 2011 Kawasaki 250F and spares budget.Indeed they have shared all twelve moto wins with Stealey currently leading that contest by a 8-4 score count.Holding third in the series at present is Daniel Hill.

With Jamie Dobson, the early leader of the Amateur MX1 class, crashing out at Whitby,Scott Beevers has now took control although he is just three points ahead of young Matthew Williamson.Williamson is currently in fine form and will be determined to take control of proceedings at Foxhill.Expect George Walton and Michael Smith to also be well in contention in this group.

In the GSP Race Products Amateur MX2 class,Darren Carter has moved to the top of the series standings after overhauling early leader Daniel Brough who was restricted to a 6th overall finish at Whitby. However with Carter’s advantage at the top just 21 points,Brough will be looking to bounce back in style at Foxhill and expect Richard McDermott,Aled Bellis and Rick Lethaby to all be well in contention.

Shaun Scrivens leads the Michelin Masters MX1 class,20 points ahead of Aaron Lowe with Christopher Rose sitting in 3rd.In Michelin Masters MX2,despite suffering his first defeat of the Masters series at Whitby,Scott Smith still heads the table with Marc Roe in 2nd,Jack Jones 3rd and Scott’s brother Sam in 4th.

The popular and picturesque Asham Woods circuit nr Leighton in Somerset was the choice destination on Bank Holiday Monday for the second round of this years ACU Dunlop supported MX323 competition. The meeting being ably presented and extremely well handled by the Frome and DMCC on a generally grey day – but fully illuminated by the sheer brilliance of the days action in both the MX3 and Under 23 sections. The course proved to be a challenging mix of old school scrambles charm allied to a super fast lap that included a breathtaking seat of your pants up and downer through a dramatically steep wooded hillside section. The only unfortunate setback on the day – two lengthy stoppages for serious injuries to sidecar racers. One at the start of the meeting and one at what proved to be the close of the days proceedings resulting in one race each from the MX3 and Under 23s programmes having to be scratched.

The four races that were carded however produced a different winner in each – on a day of truly stunning performances – John May on the Meredith Suzuki claiming the opening MX3 moto win holding off a strong challenge from both Ray Rowson on the PAR Honda and Jamie Law on the Lakeland Bikesport Suzuki. Alfie Smith put in a tremendous show to claim fourth place just ahead of top qualifier Jamie Lewis who finished in fifth.

In the second race of the day for the MX3 guys John May really had his work cut out and had to battle his way back into contention following a poor start. Jamie Lewis snatched the hole-shot from Ray Rowson in second with Jamie Law in third. As the race unfolded it was obvious May had the bit well and truly between his teeth as he reeled the leaders in and eventually finished in a flying third place, and good enough to claim the overall win on the day. Jamie Lewis won race two quite convincingly as Rowson faltered to eventually finish in sixth as Jamie Law claimed second.

In the opening moto for the Under 23s Alan Keet proved his winning qualifiers time was no fluke by blasting his way into an early lead that he held on to all the way to the chequered flag with a full scale battle royal taking place in his wake. When the final flag dropped for the rest Shane Carless had brilliantly piloted the new AD Motorcycles KTM into second recovering from a first lap eleventh place – and on the final lap Scott Elderfield got the better of Joe Dark to snatch a dramatic third place in a tighter than tight finish.

In the second and what proved to be the final solo moto of the day Shane Carless made absolutely no mistake as he lead through every turn to claim the overall win going 2-1. Alan Keet took a superb second place virtually untroubled to score second overall on the day with Scott Elderfield again coming through to nail third place both in the race and in the overall days standings.

The young Irishman Martin Barr once again showed excellent form this past weekend at round 3 of the Red Bull Pro National. Martin swept to two convincing wins in the MX2 class and now leads the championship by 6 points from his closest rival.

Martin Barr – Red Bull Pro National – 1st overall MX2
“Today went really well. It started with first place in qualifying, followed by two race wins so I couldn’t ask for much more. Coming into the weekend I was two points behind Banks Browne and now lead with a 6 point advantage. I wanted to come and get the red plate which I did so I’m happy. The PAR Honda is performing really well and hopefully I can keep the momentum going for the rest of the season. I’ve got a bit of a break now from championship events so it’s a good time to plan for the rest of the year.”

Brad Anderson – Red Bull Pro National – 3rd overall MX1
“I was hoping for a good day today, in the first race I started ok in around 6th and started to catch Sword, LaMay and Dougan, me and Crockard collided and I went down, it was too late to catch up with the others. I had a better start in race two and chased LaMay hard and eventually finished 2nd. I felt I could have pushed a bit more but the conditions today were awkward, hard underneath and loose on top so I really didn’t want to risk anything. I have a 22 point lead in the championship now so I’m happy with that.”

Scott Elderfield – Red Bull Pro National – 1st overall 2 Stroke open
A fine display of 2 stroke racing ensured Scott Elderfield a fine overall win in the Fuchs Silkolene Open championship at Canada Heights on the Saturday. Scott swept to wins in the first two races only to be passed on the line (literally) by Gordon Crockard in race three which put paid to a well deserved maximum.

If you had Brad Anderson, Scott Elderfield, Martin Barr, Ray Rowson and Luke Hawkins in one team you are destined to win something and that is exactly what PAR Honda are looking for in 2010.

Brad the current MX1 British champion is still hungry for success and Martin Barr is possibly the most consistent rider in the UK at this present time. And with Scott Elderfield thrown in for good measure there’s a win or two there as well – the team has strength in depth for sure.

The PAR Honda team of Martin Barr, Brad Anderson, Ray Rowson and Scott Elderfield raced at the third round of the British Masters Series at Whitby, North Yorkshire this past weekend.

It was a dominate performance by Martin Barr that set the weekend apart as he raced both classes and walked away with two powerful overall victories, a testament to his ever improving performances. This was capped off with another thrilling performance by Scott Elderfield in the MX2 class with a solid second overall.

Martin Barr – British Masters – 1st Overall MX1 and MX2
“It was great weekend at Whitby, in race one I got a bad start and worked my through to win it. Race two was different I got a better start and was lying 2nd, I made a silly mistake and stalled the bike and went back to 6th, I managed to get back to 4th and win the overall! In MX2 I qualified 1st and won both races for the overall. I was real happy with the way I was riding today and to win the overall in both classes is something pretty cool.”

Brad Anderson – British Masters – 7th overall MX1 and 5th overall MX2
“It certainly wasn’t my best day at Whitby, I crashed with Scott and my spark plug cap came off which left me too much to do in that race. I need to work on my starts at the moment as I’m leaving myself too much to do, my speed is there but the starts are crucial at this level.”

Scott Elderfield – British Masters – 8th overall MX1 and 2nd Overall MX2
Once again Scott landed himself comfortably on yet another podium in 2010 this time in the MX2 class behind team mate Martin Barr. Scott was strong in both races finishing runner up in both. Scott is currently in 2nd place in the MX1 championship and leads the MX2 championship by 80 points.

Ray Rowson – British Masters
“After a big crash at the Maxxis British championship last weekend which left the PAR Honda 450 rider battered and bruised Ray had a difficult weekend at Whitby. A weeks rest and recuperation will see him back in the saddle at the Red Bull Pro National at Canada Heights.

Throw in the ingredients of an awesome, spectacular motocross track with panoramic views of the Whitby coastline, add a big sprinkling of the countries top riders all chasing one of the largest MX prize funds in Europe and the end result is another fantastic Wulfsport British Masters event. For round three of the AMCA series in which riders of all abilities are just desperate to be involved in,over 350 competitors travelled to Skelder Bank,North Yorkshire.Whilst PAR Honda rider Martin Barr took top honours in both the Wulfsport Pro MX1 and MX2 classes, the other outstanding performances of the weekend came from Kawasaki Masters series leader Zac Stealey and Amateur Non-Qualifiers winner Jamie Ashbrook who both produced a perfect four out of four moto victories in their respective classes.

Already in the opening two rounds of the series, the Pro MX classes have wowed the watching crowd with an abundance of top quality racing, and on the technical Skelder Bank circuit that reputation was certainly maintained. In Pro MX1 race one,Stuart Edmonds led the early exchanges before it became a PAR Honda party at the front as Scott Elderfield led the hardcharging Brad Anderson with Martin Barr in close company. But then, disaster! as on the exit from a fast flowing corner and with both Elderfield and Anderson seriously on the gas, they were to meet at the same intersection point, both crashing and tasting the Whitby soil.Although quickly remounting, they could only watch as a surprised Barr moved through to take control followed by Kristian Whatley.Undeterred, the Elderfield v Anderson battle continued to rage all the way to the chequered flag, but it was to be Elderfield who was to eventually get that 3rd spot though .After starting in 13th,Gordon Crockard got back to 5th just ahead of a great Proppa.com Honda battle between Nathan Parker and James Noble.Local favourite Noble had made a great recovery in this moto, moving from 27th back to 7th whilst Jamie Skuse,LaMay and Ray Rowson rounded off the top ten.

In second Pro MX1 clash,Noble got off to a far stronger start but it was LaMay who led from gate to flag.On lap seven,Noble passed Barr for an eventual runners-up spot.Crockard also then further relegated Barr to take 3rd after initially gating 11th.The points gained at Skelder Bank now promotes the ‘Crockstar’ to the top of the Wulfsport Pro MX1 standings.Following their moto one collision,Anderson and Elderfield again had to work hard for their points in this clash.Anderson moving from 28th back to 8th whilst Elderfield went from 31st up to 11th.

Within one lap of the opening Wulfsport Pro MX2 clash at Whitby,Barr had passed Elderfield and there he remained all the way to the flag. After that frantic opening lap,Bryan MacKenzie had also squeezed past Whatley and up into 3rd.Taking 5th in this clash was David Goosen whilst Anderson moved from 11th to earn 6th,Ray Rowson was 7th,Matthew Moffat 8th,Stuart Edmonds 9th and Jamie Smith 10th.

In Pro MX2 moto two,Barr made another stunning start to lead Whatley, young Sunny Thompson,Elderfield and AMCA star Lee Dunham.Dunham was to then uphold the AMCA honour with a very impressive performance, getting home in 8th.Once again though,Barr was to take the win with another stylish ride as Elderfield passed Whatley for 2nd spot on lap nine.Working hard for his prize money in this moto,Anderson went from 13th up to 4th,finishing just ahead of MacKenzie,Wayne Smith and Moffat. After originally holding an early top ten position,Sonny Thompson was to retire on lap seven.

Making his first appearance of the season in the Proppa.com MXY2 Masters,Luke Norris won three out of the four Whitby motos. The only moto in which he failed to be first past the post was race two on Saturday when Christian Taylor took the victory from James Dunn,Ryan Williams,Dan Thornhill and Andrew Smart with Norris in 6th spot.

Whilst Norris was the star at Whitby, the ride of the weekend though surely belonged to eventual runner-up Dunn.

After falling on the first turn of moto one,Dunn then blasted from last back to 8th,a truly great effort!!.Taking 3rd overall on the weekend was Dunn’s Suzuki GB teamate Dan Thornhill with Ryan Williams 4th,Damon Wales 5th and Alexander Hussey 6th.

As the saying goes, ‘a championship is decided over the season and not just one round’.Well that maybe true but, current Moto-Pro Suspension BW85cc leader Sam Winterburn may have produced the one defining performance in his particular title quest during the final Whitby moto.Falling in lap one,Sam was a distant last before blasting back to 7th and thus earn himself 37 very vital points.Throughout the weekend,Winterburn was also the only rider to defeat the very impressive overall winner Adam Sterry. In winning three out of four motos,Sterry topped the podium ahead of Adam Darbyshire and Thomas Davies.

In the SW85cc contest,Casey Connelly(2),Gradie Featherstone and Tyron Cleaver all enjoyed the honour of being the first rider home in each clash. In the overall placings at Whitby, the current Championship top three of Connelly,

Cleaver and Charlie Hamlet also filled the podium places.

As previously mentioned,Kawasaki Masters top honours went to current championship leader Zac Stealey who reeled off four brilliant moto wins.On all four occasions,Tom Watts chased him home and these two lads are now beginning to seriously stamp their authority on this class with Stealey 20 points ahead of Watts and a massive 119 points clear of Daniel Hill in 3rd.After being in Championship contention,Luke Spence crashed out in moto one and was unable to compete in the remainder of the meeting whilst Ryan Pottenger suffered an indifferent weekend, picking up a 3/24/0/3 scorecard.

Having his first Masters outing of the season, expierenced AMCA Championship campaigner Aaron Crowder took the overall Amateur MX1 win at Whitby. On day one,Crowder chased home Alistair Clarke with Matthew Williamson and Richard Collins in close company. After then starting with a 4th place in Sunday’s opener,Clarke was well on course for a podium placing before having his dreams demolished when disappearing from proceedings on lap three of the final moto. So,taking full advantage of Clarke’s misfortune and winning both of Sunday’s thrilling clashes was Lancastrian Crowder despite the close attention of young Williamson who was to take 2nd overall with Collins in 3rd.Championship leader Scott Beevers took 7th overall at Whitby and is now just three points ahead of Williamson.Early pacesetter in this class,Jamie Dobson unfortunately crashed out in the opening moto of the weekend.

In the GSP Race Products Amateur MX2 class,Daniel Brough has been overhauled at the top of the Championship standings by Darren Carter. With Brough 6th overall at Whitby,Carter took the win with a 1/2/8/1 scorecard.Brough did gain some reward though by taking the moto two win on Saturday, the other race victor over the weekend being Ricky Lethaby.

Overall winner of Michelin Masters MX1 William Foster would have gone home with a perfect maximum points haul but for a fall in moto three.Taking that tumble enabled current series leader Shaun Scrivens to be first past the winning post on that particular occasion. However on the day,Scrivens had to settle for 4th overall behind Foster,Aaron Lowe and Jamie Wilson.Over in Michelin Masters MX2,series leader Scott Smith incredibly suffered his first defeat of the Championship so far,and guess what?,the victor was to be his brother Sam.Making it though another super Masters for the Smith family,Scott took the overall win from Sam in 2nd,Marc Roe 3rd,Jack Jones 4th,Adam Savage 5th and Tom Smith 6th.

Making up for the disappointment of not making the cut in the main Amateur races,Jamie Ashbrook won all four Non-Qualifiers clashes to earn the overall ahead of Thomas Card and Matthew Perkins.Well done Jamie, another great performance in what is an outstanding motocross series!!,next stop the famous Foxhill Moto Parc on June 5th/6th.

The third round of the Maxxis British championship took the whole of the PAR Honda team to glorious Scotland this weekend. After last year’s washout it was a massive relief that the weekend stayed dry which made the racing exciting in both classes.

Brad Anderson put in a huge effort to try to regain the coveted red plate in MX1. Ando took the first moto just ahead of Stephen Sword and Russian Bobryshev but made a few mistakes in the following two races which knocked him off the top spot. Brad still did enough to finish 3rd overall and stay in touch with the championship leader Bobryshev.

Brad Anderson – Maxxis British championship 3rd overall MX1
“The first race went really well and I checked out and I felt good, my starts let me down in the second two races and left me too much to do against this type of field. It took me ages to get past riders but when I did get passed I went away. I’m really wanted to win at Duns but it didn’t happen. It was a disappointing weekend but let’s move on.”

Hard charging Scott Elderfield didn’t quite get into the groove at Duns but still did enough to finish well into the top 10 in 8th. Scott battled well with riders such as Josh Coppins and Tom Church in his first year racing the MX1 class.

Ray Rowson suffered a big race two get off and had to sit out the remaining of the day. Hopefully Ray will be fine to race at this weekend’s British Masters at Whitby.

In MX2 Martin Barr gets stronger and stronger. Martin put in another determined performance against GP opposition and finished the day as runner up. Martin is now in joint second in the MX2 championship with Jake Nicholls.

Martin Barr – Maxxis British championship 2nd Overall MX2
“I’m real happy with how things went; I was coming into today really looking forward to going racing. I’m not too good at the one lap things so third in qualifying was cool.
All three races I was pleased with, my starts were good, I made a couple of errors like hitting neutral trying to pass Nicholls in race three which probably cost me second in that one but overall very pleased. I’m second in the championship and it’s a long season so still plenty to play for.”

Luke Hawkins produced another consistent performance in his rookie year in Maxxis British championship MX2 class. The youngest member of the team is a only a whisker away from a top 5 spot and with more European rounds due on his schedule expect that experience to catapult him into the top half of the top 10.

Luke Hawkins – Maxxis British championship 10th Overall MX2
“The qualifying went well in fact it was my best yet at the Maxxis, 7th so I was pleased with that. I felt confident today and nearly took the holeshot in moto one. The roost was tough today and made it difficult to pass, I’m pleased my racing is consistent and I’m looking for more solid rides in the remaining rounds.”

The team now head to Whitby for the British Masters Series this coming weekend.

Fresh from some major successes in Sunday’s Dutch GP at Valkenswaard, the top teams are now preparing for the third round of the ACU Maxxis British Championship at Duns this weekend. Current MX1 Championship leader, CAS Honda imported Russian, Evgeny Bobreshev, was a star performer in the Dutch sand with a fifth and ninth place in the two energy sapping motos and now holds 12th in the world rankings. His CAS team mate, South African, Gareth Swanepoel, holds 13th poistion, just in front of the Aprilia Factory rider Josh Coppins, who makes his 2010 Championship debut this weekend. Buildbase CCM rider, Tom Church, holds 21st in the world standings and will want to make his mark on the domestic series the team have focused on this season. He will be joined by friend and team collegue, Stephen Sword, who has rested for the past two weeks in an attempt to shake off a virus which has affected his recent performances.

Lets hope so...

In the MX2 class, the riders current rankings are even higher with Zach Osborne and Jake Nicholls currently holding 8th and 11th positions, resuming their domestic battle they both desperately want to get their hands on whilst Latvian, Mattis Karro and Mel Pocock are both in the top 20 on the world stage.

However, there are a host of riders who are not following the world trail who could be worthy of podium places at the end of the event on Sunday, including the PAR Honda pairing of Ray Rowson (now back from injury) and Scott Elderfield who cleaned up with maximums at the ACU’s MX323 round at Little Silver yesterday. Brad Anderson and Gordon Crockard are also on form after moto wins at a non championship event over the weekend and will want to carry their successes forward to climb the leaderboard, especially Anderson who lost his Championship lead at Mallory Park five weeks ago.

The action starts at 9am with Timed Qualifying and the first of six championship races off the grid at 12.15pm. Duns in situated in the Lammermuir Hills, midway between Newcastle and Edinburgh and is easily reached from the A1 and A7 trunk roads.
