Industry high flyers KTM, riding high on a wave of recent new model launches, have announced that they have joined the fight against crime and taken the step to protect their off road customers by signing up to the MASTER Security Scheme. KTM will fit all off road models in their range, including children’s bikes, as standard from June 1st*.

Theft is a major concern for the off road sector and accounts for a significant proportion of the 26,000 machines being stolen each year, many of which are never recovered. To help tackle the problem the Industry came together in 2012 to launch the Official MASTER Security Scheme, the first ever official industry wide security marking scheme. The scheme uses state of the art Datatag marking technology and was developed in close collaboration with the Police, Home Office and ACPO. The benefit of the scheme means that, as all parts are readily identifiable, criminals cannot break bikes down into component parts to rebuild and sell on.

Backed by KTM and other major motorcycle manufacturers, the Police and the Home Office, the scheme will, according to the Metropolitan Police Stolen Vehicle Squad, have a dramatic effect on theft of new machines, ‘With the launch of the MASTER scheme new bikes are protected before even leaving the showrooms – this is a huge step towards defeating the criminal gangs.’ Commented D.C. Simon Ashton of the Metropolitan Police.

Datatag Managing Director, Kevin Howells, said ‘We are delighted that KTM have signed up to fit the Official Master Scheme. To protect their off road range including their smaller bikes, an industry first, is a clear sign that KTM are serious about protecting their customer’s assets. Working with all the various race associations we are passionate about stopping theft in motocross and enduro and are confident that with brands adopting the MASTER scheme and the race organisations backing us we will see a reduction.’

Shaun Sisterson, Managing Director for KTM UK, said ‘For KTM, customer relationships are paramount. What better way can we demonstrate this than by fitting the MASTER Scheme and registering on the DVLA Off Road Register our machines most at risk of theft? In this way we help ensure our customers remain our customers and can enjoy their KTM’s without the worry of theft hanging over them. Furthermore our customers can buy and sell used KTM’s with more confidence because each motorcycle will automatically get a V5c registration document from the DVLA when it is added to the Off Road Register.’

KTM join a growing number of the industry’s top brands who, together with the industry, are doing something to end the effect of theft on Britain’s bikers for good.

The Official MASTER Security Scheme, powered by proven Datatag technology comes with …
‘UV’ etching technology for ‘stealth’ permanent marking**
Unique electronic transponder combination
Datadot microscopic identification system
Warning decal, designed to complement today’s machines
And is
Thatcham TQA approved
Secured by Design approved (the Police preferred specification)

*machines supplied from June 1 to June 30 will be supplied kits to be fitted after delivery.
**not included in Off Road Kits.

Existing KTM owner and owners of road going machines are at greater risk of theft than before as new machines come ready protected by the MASTER Scheme. However they can protect themselves by retro-fitting a Datatag Motorcycle Security Kit. With a retail selling price of just £89.99 and available through their local KTM dealers, Datatag’s new marking kits offer protection from theft and peace of mind for owners across the UK.

Why is security marking necessary?
Motorcycle theft is a huge problem and increasing. Of the 26,000 machines stolen each year in the UK (based on 2009 figures), the majority are less than 3 years old.*
50 % of these are stolen from Greater London, with 35 machines taken from its streets each day.
Recovery rates are as low as 18 % for some types of bikes.*
Many motorcycles are broken up into parts within hours of being stolen and reassembled onto legal frames, which have legitimate log books.*
The majority of these ‘clones’ find their way into the legitimate dealer network, as it is currently nearly impossible for dealers or the police to identify stolen parts.*
43% of all insurance total loss pay outs are due to theft (according to MCI research).
40 % of those who receive insurance pay outs DO NOT buy another motorcycle and therefore around 10,000 people leave motorcycling each year.*
For those innocent people who unwittingly buy stolen vehicles and have their bikes seized by the police, 90 % do not continue with motorcycling.*
*(Facts and figures supplied by the Motorcycle Crime Reduction Group).

Steve Holcombe made a welcome return to riding after being sidelined for 6 months due to injury. Jumping from a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke and joining Crescent KTM this year is all change for the 2012 Under 19 British Sprint Enduro Champion.

Riding through, Steve made an impressive return taking 2nd in the Under 23 class. We are excitted to see Steve back in action and think there is a lot to come from Steve as he begins to find his feet once again.

Daryl Bolter (KTM) and Matti Seistola (Husqvarna) secure Elite class victory at rounds one and two of the Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship at Chavenage Farm.

Enjoying near prefect weather conditions the 2013 Husqvarna British Sprint Enduro Championship got off to an exciting start at Chavenage Farm, Tetbury, Gloucester. Utilising the venue’s flowing terrain, event organisers GMC Events delivered a challenging cross-country style course that mixed high-speed ‘motocross’ style sections with technical woodlands and rolling grassy hills.

Elite
Setting the fastest time on the first of eight special tests, KTM’s Tom Sagar controlled the Elite class race lead early on during round one. Losing time on the opening test Seistola soon found his rhythm and began to reduce the deficit to Sagar. Working his way into the lead at the end of lap four, Seistola looked on course to claim the win until disaster struck on the final special test.

With his bike developing a fuel pick-up issue, the Finn was left stranded and lost control of the lead. Gaining ground on his rivals as the day wore on, Bolter overtook a slowing Sagar and then capitalised on Seistola’s misfortune to claim a surprising win. With Sagar slipping back to second position, Husaberg’s Jamie McCanney posted the fastest time on the final test to snatch third position in the Elite class away from TM’s Jordan Rose. With Rose fourth, Honda’s Jamie Lewis completed the top five.

Determined to make amends for his previous day’s bad luck, Seistola attacked round two from the start of special test one. Opening up a nine-second advantage over McCanney, the Husqvarna rider continued to build on his race lead as the day progressed. Claiming five of the day’s seven special tests, Seistola ended round two as the winner.

Setting the fastest time on laps three and four, McCanney improved on his previous day’s result of third to end round two as runner-up to Seistola, while also claiming the overall victory for the weekend. Chasing McCanney home for third, round one winner Bolter completed the top three to leave Chavenage Farm as the championship leader. With Lewis finishing fourth, Lee Edmondson (Honda) rounded out the top five.

Under 23
In the Under 23 category, Husqvarna’s Jack Rowland delivered a dominant display of riding to secure a terrific double win. Setting the fastest time in all of the day’s eight special tests, Rowland comfortably topped round one. Behind him, Scot Neil Chatham (KTM) fended off a tough challenge from TM’s James Dent to claim the runner-up position. With Dent finishing third, Yamaha’s Ryan McLean and Frazer Flockhart (KTM) completed the top five.

At round two Rowland was again the class leader and easily took the U23 class win. Showing great form in his first outing at the BSEC, Husqvarna’s Adam Reynolds finished as runner-up to Rowland. Improving on his fifth place result from round one, Flockhart ended his day in third. Dent slipped back to fourth position with Chatham completing the top five.

Under 19
The Under 19 class witnessed two different winners at Chavenage Farm. Setting times that would have seen him place inside the top ten of the overall classification, Kawasaki’s Joe Wootton secured a massive four-minute margin of victory over TM’s Josh Gotts. With Gotts second, Scott Altass (KTM) held off Andrew Bull (KTM) to place third. With Bull ending his day in fourth position, Harvey Dark (KTM) completed the top five.

Determined to repeat his winning result from round one, Wootton led early during round two until disaster struck on lap five. Loosing over six minutes following a crash, the Kawasaki rider dropped back to an eventual 11th place result. With Wootton out of contention, Husqvarna’s Rob Johnson took control of the race led and secured the win. Finishing 36 seconds behind Johnson, Gotts claimed his second runner-up result of the weekend. Bull recorded his first podium result of the series with third place while Altass and Dark rounded out the top five.

125cc Youth Cup
In the highly competitive 125 Youth Cup class, KTM’s Brad Freeman recorded two very convincing wins. Setting a pace that his rivals struggled to match, Freeman easily topped round one by almost three minutes. Husaberg’s Lee Sealey followed him home for second position with Jack Staines (KTM) placing third. Jon Hunt (Husqvarna) narrowly beat fifth placed Charlie Frost (KTM) to end his day in fourth.

At round two, Freeman once again topped the 125 Youth Cup standings though this time Sealey closed the gap to finish within one-minute of the KTM rider in second position. Staines claimed another top three result with third while Hunt and Frost rounded out the top five.

Expert & Expert Vet
In the hotly contested Expert class Kawasaki mounted Brad King topped the standings at round one. Placing just 20 seconds behind King, Sherco’s Scott Austin was second with Charlie Evans (KTM) in third. Richard Ely (KTM) and Max Hembroke (KTM) completed the top five.
At round two Ely was the rider to beat and took the Expert class win. With King finishing as runner-up to Ely, Hemborke placed third. KTM’s Dan Beaven improved to fourth position while Austin dropped back to fifth.

In the Expert Vets category, TM’s Carl Tiley secured the overall win. KTM’s Andrew Reeves finished second overall with Geoff Walker (Husaberg) completing the top three.

Clubman & Clubman Vets
Peter King (TM) claimed the Clubman Vet class win at round one with Darren Jones (KTM) and Dai Beer (KTM) completing the top three. Tim Cotton (Husaberg) was the winner at round two with King and Jones finishing in second and third place respectively.

In the strongly supported Clubman class, Beta’s Lee Green beat Richard Holmes (KTM) and Chris Bennetto (KTM) to win round one. With Green topping the standings at round two Mark Denslow (KTM) Holmes competed the top three.

Women
Katie Walker (KTM) secured two convincing wins in the Women’s class. Behind her Hannah Styles (Husaberg) finished second at both rounds while Liz Childerley (KTM) completed the top three.

It’s all systems go for the 2013 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship, which kicks off this weekend at the picturesque Chavenage Farm venue in Gloucestershire…

Attracting an impressive line-up of national and international talent, the Elite class is once again hotly contested. As the defending champion, Electraction TM’s Jordan Rose will lead the charge at Chavenage but with a stacked entry he’ll face a tough title fight if he wishes to retain his #1 status.

Following his sensational double win at the final rounds of the 2012 BSEC series at Canada Heights, Finland’s Matti Seistola (Husqvarna) joins the championship as one of the leading favourites for Elite class glory. Seistola, who will be supported by Freestyle Husqvarna, currently sits third overall in the Enduro 1 World Championship standings and will be keen to use that momentum to ensure a winning start to his BSEC campaign.

Committing to the 2013 series, former champion Tom Sagar (Colwyn Bay KTM UK) will be a formidable opponent to both Rose and Seistola – not only at Chavenage Farm but throughout the series. Fresh from his dominant victory at the opening round of the British Enduro Championship in Scotland, Sagar is hungry to win this weekend.

As the 2012 series runner-up, former MXGP rider, Tom Church (Husaberg) was one of last year’s standout performers. Improving in both speed and experience, Church quickly became a regular podium contender. Now with a full season of competition behind him and partnered with Midwest Husaberg, Church has his sights set on reaching the top step of the podium in 2013.

After a slow start to his 2012 season, Crescent KTM’s Darryl Bolter came on strong as the series passed the halfway point. Eager to make a stronger start to his new season, expect Bolter to come out fighting for a podium result this weekend.

Add in a whole host of British talent including the Edmondson Racing Honda duo of Jamie Lewis and Lee Edmondson, Mark Roberts (Electraction TM), Ryan Voase (Kawasaki), Scotland’s Ricky Mair (KTM) and not forgetting Elite class rookie Jamie McCanney (Husaberg) – the current leader of the Enduro Youth Cup World Championship – the stage is set for a thrilling start to the BSEC season.

In the Under 23 category, MPS Racing Husqvarna’s Jack Rowland enters Chavenage Farm as firm favourite for top honours. The 2012 European Enduro Champion was forced to play second fiddle to last season’s leading trio of Danny McCanney, Jonny Walker and Alex Rockwell. But with those three moving on, Rowland is more determined than ever to establish himself as the champion elect.

After a 100 per cent winning record in the Under 19 category in 2012, Crescent KTM’s Steve Holcombe moves into the U23 class for 2013 but is unable to cmpete this weekend due to a recent shoulder injury. Runner-up to Holcombe in 2012, TM’s James Dent also switches to the U23 class for 2013 and will be keen to establish himself as a serious podium contender. Add in Scotland’s Frazer Flockhart (KTM) and Frazier Norrie (KTM), Husaberg’s Aaron Smith, Max Varney (Yamaha) and Andrew Noakley (KTM) and the battle for a top five result with be as fierce as ever.

Ending the 2012 season third overall in the Under 19 class, MPS Racing’s Robert Johnson has his sights set on winning this year. Fast and extremely consistent, the Husqvarna rider is solely focused on winning this weekend. But with CTR TM’s Josh Gotts and Kawasaki’s Joe Wootton, along with Scott Altass (KTM), Luke Flack (KTM) and Luke Gorse (KTM) all in the mix, winning won’t come easy.

As the defending champion, Brad Freeman (KTM) leads the charge of the 125 Youth Cup riders. Claiming four victories in 2012, Freeman will be keen to add to that tally in 2013, though Jon Hunt (Husqvarna), Lee Sealey (Husaberg), Jordan Ridgway (KTM) and Charlie Frost (KTM) all have their sights set on podium results.

As one of the largest classes of 2013, the Expert category is also one of the toughest to predict. Can the 2012 champion Richard Ely (KTM) get his season off to a winning start or will Tyson Maytom Jones (Husaberg), Brad King (Kawasaki), Steve Hunt (KTM), Dan Beaven (KTM), Gethin Francombe (TM), Jamie Paget (Husaberg) or Jack Lee (Gas Gas) beat him to it?

Securing a maximum of 10 wins from 10 starts, Jane Daniels (Midwest Husaberg) dominated the Women’s class in 2012. But forced to start her title defence with a recent injury, Katie Walker (KTM), Hanna Styles (Husaberg) and Liz Childerley (Husaberg) are hoping to capitalise on Daniel’s misfortune and take a surprise win.

With a bumper entry list of riders plus additional two new classes for 2013 – Expert Veterans and Clubman Veterans – along with the strongly supported Clubman class, the opening rounds of the 2013 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship are set for an explosive start in Chavenage Farm, Gloucester.

Knighter Honda rider David Knight started the 2013 enduro world championship with two solid 5th place finishes in the ultra competitive E2 class. Just missing out on a podium finish on both days by only a handful of seconds. Starting the Friday night supertest confident, David put in a solid first lap but at the start of the second lap made a mistake and got a track post jammed in his handlebars costing him valuable time in the very short stage.

Saturday started good on stage 1 as David posted a very strong time even with a small crash near the start of the very long dusty test. Finding a good rhythm as the day went on he set fastest stage times during the day as five riders swapped places every stage at a very fast pace and very closely contested battle. Just missing out on the podium mainly due to Friday nights mistake David was very happy with his pace and enjoyed his first outdoor enduro on the CRF450 Honda. Winning the extreme award for the fastest overall combined time on the day in the extreme test.

Sunday started even better for Knighter as he won the first enduro test, going faster than day 1, also faster on the MX test where he was losing most of his advantage on Saturday and setting very fast times on the extreme test. David was looking for a definite podium until a crash in extreme test on lap 2 in the dust from a slower rider cost him 20 seconds. Battling back on the final lap, setting 2 out of 3 fastest times, David missed the podium by less than 4 seconds and missed 2nd by 13 seconds. Showing however that the speed and pace is defiantly there.

David Knight:
Really the results don’t justify the pace I had at the weekend, but I am very happy with my speed and more importantly I felt very comfortable in doing the times I did.
The weekend started bad in the supertest but trying to go at the speeds we are, it’s easy to mess up when it’s dark and you can’t see for dust, I made a small mistake but it cost me a lot of time.

Saturday started with a small crash but my time was good so I just built on that as the day went on, and rode my own race. Apart from the Mx test where I was losing a little time, the other 2 tests I was putting fastest times in so although fifth dosnt sound great, the pace of the top 5 guys was incredibly fast so it was a good solid day and my first enduro on the Honda, so I’m happy enough.

Day 2 started great, I changed my rear shock and immediately went faster on every test on the first lap, going even faster on lap two and battling for 2nd I got a lot of dust on the extreme test from a slower guy and crashed on a steep downhill on a rock I didn’t see loosing 15 seconds. I fought back and missed 2nd by 13 seconds and was only 4 from third so it’s a little tough to take getting fifth again but overall I’m very happy that I’m in the fight to win already at the first race on the Honda, my pace is good and I felt good at the end which I’m very pleased about.

It shows how fast we were pushing in E2 as I was much faster than the winner in E3 on both days which was almost impossible for me last year so I’m defiantly going in the right direction. A big thanks to Paul, Greek and Rudy, also Honda Chille and all my sponsors and fans that came and supported me, hopefully I can make that podium in Argentina next weekend.

The Trials and Enduro Committee regretfully announce that they have been informed by MidWest Motorcycle Club that the 2nd Round of the British Enduro Championship, scheduled for 13th & 14th April, has had to be cancelled. This is due to MidWest being unable to secure the land.

Every effort has been made to find an alternative venue on this date but this has proved to be unsuccessful.

The Organisers are extremely disappointed but these circumstances are beyond their control.
